RANDWICK August 20

Course Proper; A Grass; Good 4

12 Heats – Course Proper – 1 x 1000m (Group/Listed); 1 x 850m (Group/Listed); A Grass – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 6 x 1045m (2 Open; 4 Maiden); 2 x 742m (1 3YO Fillies; 1 Maiden)

Exciting spring contenders CONVERGE and LOST AND RUNNING won the feature trials on the course proper.

The G1 winner CONVERGE showed that he is real Golden Rose/Caulfield Guineas player with a classy win in the 100m heat, easily picking up smart types DISCHARGED and SHOUT TO THE BAR over the last 100m for a dominant win (58.55; 35.12).

The G1 winners LION'S ROAR and CAPTIVANT were not competitive early but put in their best work over the last 200m although more than five lengths from the winner.

LOST AND RUNNING began his Everest build up with a tradesman win over the smart sprinter MARWAY in the 850m heat (49.52; 34.18). He sat off Marway for the first 400m before they sprinted  to the line together in fast time with both working well within themselves.

The Golden Slipper winner STAY INSIDE had an easy time of it in his second trial, finishing fifth 2.6 lengths off the winner..

The good stayer SPIRIT RIDGE continues to trial well, leading from the jump for a soft win in the fastest of two 1200m heats on the A Grass (72.90; 35.56).

The unbeaten HUESCA underlined his potential with an all the way win in the fastest 1045m heat (62.74; 34.66) with MADAM LEGEND and WARRIOR HERO putting in strong trials behind him.

John O'Shea and the Waterhouse/Bott stable dominated the maiden heats over 1045m. O'Shea would have been pleased with the strong finishing wins by his pair RUINART (63.74; 35.09) and ARTHUR FRANCIS (63.20; 35.15).

Waterhouse and Bott have a nice type in THE RAMPANT, an unraced 4YO gelding by Snitzel having his second trial. He showed good race sense to win his 1045m heat (63.97; 35.16), hitting the line impressively under a soft ride from off the pace.

His unraced 5YO stablemate INVINCIBLE VISION recorded his fourth trial win (63.03; 34.90) in preparation for his overdue first race appearance. He did best over the last 100m in the fastest maiden heat with STUNNING TO WIN and KA BLING also taking the eye with their placings behind him.

Ron Quinton's promising 3YO filly DE AN ANDRETTI added to her growing reputation with a classy win in the open heat over 742m (44.41; 33.94) although the maiden heat won by SNITZONFIRE (43.45; 33.40) was run in faster time. DE AN ANDRETTI was held up behind a line of leaders and it was her late surge when gaining a split in the last 100m that underlined her talent.
