Chris Scholtz reviews Hawkesbury barrier trials on August 23.
HAWKESBURY August 23

15 Heats – Course Proper 1 x 900m (Group/Listed); Inside Grass – 1 x 1250m (Open); 5 x 1000m (2 Open; 3 Maiden); 8 x 800m (2 Open; 6 Maiden)
Is WILD RULER a genuine Everest contender?
Everest slot holders still to make their selection could have him on their short list after his impressive trial win the 900m heat for Group horses held on the Hawkesbury course proper on Monday.
Two-time Everest runner and G1 winner TREKKING was among his rivals but WILD RULER was the one to make the best impression winning the heat narrowly from the good mare ADELONG after covering the most ground.
ADELONG made the pace with TREKKING on her back and WILD RULER easing back to sit third on his outside.
TREKKING took the inside running on the turn and levelled up with ADELONG at the 200m but WILD RULER was the one hitting the line best in the last 100m. He was eager to go quicker but Sam Clipperton had him under a tight hold but you had to like the way he went home over the top of ADELONG with TREKKING holding his ground for a close third.
The trio sped clear of the others from the start but there was not a lot of urgency from the likes of PANDEMIC and DUAIS to chase after the leaders.
Wild Ruler starts his bid for a #TABEverest slot taking out the opening trial at @hawkesburyrc on Monday (finish line the start of the red fence marking) downing Adelong with Trekking a close third. Also in the trial was Group 1 winner Duais. @tabcomau @SnowdenRacing1 pic.twitter.com/YwN13cpodx

James Cummings again used the Hawkesbury trials as a platform for a good group of runners, winning three heats with the well performed ANDERMATT and a pair of rising maidens in DARK ENERGY and KANAZAWA.
DARK ENERGY posted the fastest 1000m heat win (60.09; 34.44) with a strong come from behind win under James McDonald, while ANDERMATT (47.57; 33.22) and KANAZAWA (46.87; 32.96) recorded smart win their 800m heats.
Other Godolphin runners putting in good trials included KALLOS, VALAQUENTA; JERLE, COLOURS and PICARONES.

The fastest 800m heat was won by the speedy ILLUSTRATING LAW (46.16; 32.36), who opened up a big lead but only had a bare margin to spare on the line from the fast finishing KALLOS.
