WARWICK FARM October 18

Inside Grass; Soft 5

17 Heats – 3 x 1208m (2 Open; 1 Maiden); 4 x 824m (4 Open); 4 x 820m (1 Open; 3 2YO); 3 x 816m (3 Maiden); 3 x 812m (3 Maiden); Polytrack – 1 x 1175m (Open)

A set that featured several Group One mares preparing for feature targets.

Chris Waller took the opportunity to give his top class pair FANGIRL and HINGED easy tick over trials while the Queensland Oaks winner GYPSY GODDESS also had no pressure applied as she prepares for a first-up shot at the Golden Eagle.

FANGIRL ran home easily to finish third in her 824m heat won by MONTE DITTO (50.13; 34.78), splitting horses over the last 100m and doing her best work through the line. HINGED coasted at the rear in her 820m heat won by SOAMI (48.70; 34.26) and had a lot to offer going to the line.

GYPSY GODDESS was having her second trial since her Oaks win in June after a hitout at her home track at the Sunshine Coast. It was conditioning work as she settled back as expected and worked quietly to the line under no pressure to finish a distant third in her 1208m heat won easily by the front running KISS THE BRIDE (73.66; 34.59).

BELLUCI BABE (Bjorn Baker): This quality mare has been freshened since she last raced in August and looks ready to run to her best after working smoothly to the line to win her 824m heat in fast time (48.03; 33.48). Travelled strongly behind the lead pair and easily picked them up under a quiet ride over the last 100m.

KEY LARGO (Bryce Heys): Impressive winner of his 824m heat (49.01; 34.03) in his first trial since March. Koby Jennings kept him under a big hold sitting three and four wide from the start with the 6YO eager to run. Never off the leash over the last 400m.

MY ELOISE (Joseph Pride): Lightly raced Capitalist mare is ready to pick up her maiden after working well within herself for an impressive second in a fast 812m heat won by the smart former Victorian mare LA SOPHIA (47.67; 34.13). Both mares can be followed with confidence.

Others to follow from the open heats include the former Kiwi SUPER STRIKE, a 6YO with five wins from only nine starts. He's been off the scene for some 20 months but is ready to perform after two recent Sydney trials for Richard Collett with a lot to like about the way he worked to the line for second in his 824m heat won by the pacy AUTHENTIC JEWEL (49.75; 34.49).

The maiden heats will throw up their share of winners. Among those with positive prospects are JOYRIDER, MOUNT WARNING, SEMANA, SPITFIRE, SILENT RAINDROPS and ROYAL MERCHANT.

The three 2YO heats over 820m were won by MALABOOM (49.16; 34.51), EMPRESS OF WONDER (49.46; 34.77) and SHINZO (49.28; 34.54).

Canberra-trained MALABOOM is a free running Spirit Of Boom filly with natural speed. The notable trial in her heat came from the Godolphin youngster CINQUE TERRE working strongly to the line for third.

Annabel Neasham has a good prospect in Choisir filly EMPRESS OF WONDER. You rarely see 2YOs having their first trial come from last but this filly showed natural talent with the way she made up a lot of ground with a determined finish over the last 400m.

Snitzel colt SHINZO was given a good test in his heat, showing plenty of pace and running nicely to the line. Godolphin's Sidestep colt RAZORS was the one to take the eye with his strong second.
