ROSEHILL October 21

Inside Grass; Soft 5

14 Heats – 4 x 1030m (2 Open; 2 Maiden); 10 x 900m (2 2YO; 3 Open; 1 3YO; 4 Maiden)

Crack sprinter LOST AND RUNNING commanded the spotlight as he got his program back on track after the hiccup that forced him to miss The Everest.

He finished second in his 1030m heat with Hugh Bowman riding him along to make ground on the winner SATURN STAR over the last 100m. The time was standard (62.01; 34.01) but the hitout should have him ready for his tilt at the $3 million sprint at Rosehill on October 29.

It was strong trial with the classy 3YO BUENOS NOCHES also having a solid hitout to finish a close third and the previously noted import WELWAL again taking the eye with his fifth under an easy ride.

Imports came to the fore in the slightly quicker open heat over 1030m (61.90; 34.48) with TARAASHOQ leading for a soft win and the previously noted BABY RIDER finding the line hard for a strong third.

There were several notable winners in the 900m heats:-

SNEAKY PAIGE (Mark Newnham): Freshened since her last start in September, this smart 4YOI mare by Deep Field won back to back at Randwick in August and September and looks ready to build on her record after a sharp win in her 900m heat (54.22; 33.98). She was keen to run from the start and was never tested as she maintained a clear margin over the chasers, cruising home by more than three lengths.

CAPTAIN BOND (Gerald Ryan/Sterling Alexiou): This maiden 3YO by Capitalist was having his first trial since May and has obviously come on in the right manner since last season when he was placed once in three starts. Tracked wide outside the leader under a big hold from Josh Parr before pulling his way to the lead on the turn. Parr was a passenger as he extended with style to run away with his 900m heat by almost six lengths in fast time (53.74; 34.12).

Other impressive 900m heat winners included the speedy pair BOOMSONG and INEQUALITY.

BOOMSONG posted the fastest time of the session (53.64; 34.01) winning her heat by an easy 3.35 lengths while INEQUALITY (54.22; 34.56) was all speed clearing out to score by more than four lengths in her heat. Both will be well placed in provincial sprints over 1000m.

The two 2YO heats over 900m were won in good style by promising pair MAHARBA (54.43; 34.71) and SUMMER LOVING (54.71; 34.43).

David Payne's Pride Of Dubai gelding MARHARBA is ready to perform strongly on debut after recording his second trial win at Rosehill, leading and holding his rivals under a comfortable ride from Glyn Schofield. SUMMER LOVING had only two rivals in the fillies heat but this daughter of Exceed An Excel showed a good turn of foot in her first trial to sprint to the line for an easy 3.6 lengths win.
