ROSEHILL April 29

Best Bets

RACE 7: (11) MONEY FROM THE SKY – Has always promised to be a good horse and judging by his first-up second over 1400m at Warwick Farm this could be his time. He sustained a long wide run under 59.5kg to be beaten a half length by a race fit rival and being a gross type is sure to have taken benefit from the outing. The step up to 1500m with 4kg less weight looks the right fit for him second up.

RACE 8: (11) AIR TO AIR –  Known for her poor barrier behaviour, this talented mare has taken on a new persona since joining the Waterhouse/Bott yard with no hint of past issues in trials and her one start for the stable that yielded an impressive first-up win over 1150m on the Kensington track on March 22. She followed up with another faultless trial win and is well placed to keep the momentum going as a cold ride from her wide gate could see her finish over the top of this field.

RACE 9: (7) DEMOCRACY MANIFEST – Can justify a Brisbane carnival campaign if he goes on from his classy first-up win over 1200m at Randwick when he sprinted home hard in fast sectionals from midfield to beat a quality sprinter in Maotai under 58kg. With only 55kg this was an easy choice for the dual acceptor.

For Value

RACE 3: (5) DECADENT TALE – Strong mare going well with a Randwick placing in tougher company before dictating from the front in her last start win under 60kg at Newcastle. Could be hard to run down.

RACE 4: (19) CONTEMPORARY – Heavy track was against him first-up at Warwick Farm but still found the line like a good horse. Fitter and will appreciate Zac Lloyd's claim.

TRIAL POINTERS

GOSFORD March 24: Strong return trial by promising American Pharoah 3YO FLAG OF HONOUR. He won his first two starts on slow and heavy tracks so it wasn't surprising he handled these conditions confidently, always travelling well within himself in his 1000m heat (62.17; 37.35) and going to the line easily under a soft ride. He took on three black type races in the early spring, a fair indication of the opinion held of him by his stable.

WARWICK FARM December 23: Taken by the first trial of the Harry Angel youngster RAVENCLAW to finish second in his 813m heat (49.23; 34.60). It was the slowest of the four 2YO heats over 813m but that doesn't detract from his effort to work home under strongly from last under an easy ride from James McDonald. Suspect Waller has some good talent to work with another good trial placing at Randwick on April 18 to prepare him for his debut.
