GRAFTON July 12

RAMORNIE HANDICAP: (8) DEEPOUR is an exciting prospect with plenty of scope to improve off his last start win at Ipswich when second up from a spell. They run fast in Ramornies and this will give him the opportunity to travel back in the field with cover and get clear running at the right time. It's a strong field but several of the better performed sprinters have drawn akwardly and face weight increases. The best value chances for the exotics are (7) BETTER GET SET, (4) EF TROOP, (11) DEVIL'S THROAT and (5) NORWEGIAN BLISS. Happy to gamble against the topweight (1) FAR TOO EASY (weight/wide draw) and last year's winner (2) RANGES (up in weight).

RACE 4: (3) NOBLE MISSILE (EW) - Good speed engaged should give him a nice trail and last run at them.

RACE 6: (2) CRAFTY EAGLE - Tough run in the Winx Guineas at the Sunshine Coast when trapped three wide. Rates to win on that form.

RACE 1: 3-9-1-8

RACE 2: 11-8-2-12

RACE 3: 1-3-5-7

RACE 4: 3-7-2-8

RACE 5: 7-2-6-8

RACE 6: 2-3-1-5

RACE 7: 8-7-4-11

RACE 8: 12-7-8-4

CANTERBURY July 12

RACE 2: (4) CABALLUS (EW)

RACE 3: (1) EPICUS

RACE 5: (4) KING OF NAPLES

RACE 1: 1-5-3-4

RACE 2: 4-2-8-1

RACE 3: 1-3-6-4

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM July 7: The two open heats featured some nice trials from good staying types including the Matt Smith imports FIRST IN LINE and ROYAL ROBBINS. NOVEMBER RHYTHM should find a suitable maiden after a strong win his heat over 788m (46.34; 33.46).

ROSEHILL July 4: Hellbent youngster BOSTON ROCKS confirmed the ability he displayed in a recent easy trial win at Wyong to post a dominant win by more than four lengths in his 900m heat (56.24; 36.31). He obviously goes a lot better than the form he displayed in his first race start in February.

RANDWICK June 30: The fastest 1040m heat (62.84; 34.04) featured last start winner DEVIL'S THROAT (2nd) keeping up the fitness levels with nice work over the last 100m. The Chris Waller stable has several promising types take the eye with easy trials including the previously noted CABALLUS, McHALE and ZAKIYYA.

ROSEHILL June 20: Hard to miss the excellent trial by unraced I Am Invincible colt CABALLUS finishing fourth in his 900m heat (54.79; 35.49). He was 10 lengths of the lead at the 500m and really took the eye with his work over the last 200m as he ran to the line under a strong hold from Kerrin McEvoy to be beaten just over two lengths. This was his first trial since February and expect he holds plenty of scope for improvement.

NEWCASTLE June 5: Quality mare NORWEGIAN BLISS failed to come up in two starts earlier this year but expect her to return with a vengeance after a sparkling trial win at this session. The Nathan Doyle-trained 5YO won her first seven starts and you can expect her to add to that tally in her coming campaign after she cruised through her 1000m heat in fast time. She led easily under no pressure and responded well over the last 200m, running out an unextended winner by a good margin while posting easily the fastest time in the four heats over 1000m, a feature being her fast last 600m (60.16; 32.71).
