HAWKESBURY July 17

Inside Grass; Soft 6

13 Heats – 1 x 1250m (Open); 5 x 1000m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 1 Maiden); 7 x 800m (1 Open; 5 2YO; 1 Maiden)

The strength of the Godolphin team for the coming season was obvious, winning six heats with some of their classiest young prospects from their current 2YO crop.

Their heat winners included the 2YO Group/Listed winners CYLINDER, BARBER, CORNICHE and TOM KITTEN and the classy 3YO filly PARISAL while their top grade 3YO GOLDEN MILE let down beautifully for an impressive third in his open heat over 800m.

CYLINDER (James Cummings): As you would expect the Silver Slipper and Todman Stakes winner and Golden Slipper runner-up was too classy for lesser performed rivals in his 800m heat (48.87; 33.66). Others ran faster time but the Exceed And Excel colt looked in fine fettle settling a couple of lengths of the lead and tracking three wide under a quiet ride from James McDonald. H cruised into it from the 300m and easily went up a gear at the 100m to quickly put a margin on the chasers, running through the line under a big hold.

BARBER (James Cummings): The G3 winner by Exceed And Excel trialled in similar style to CYLINDER, James McDonald giving him to time to settle off the pace in his fast 800m heat (47.51; 33.15) while travelling wide before rounding them up under a soft ride. Made an impression with his strength through the line.

PARISAL/GOLDEN MILE (James Cummings): Classy filly PARISAL dominated her 800m heat from the front, cruising in front under Rachel King and looking a real professional extending smoothly to score a soft win by almost two lengths with a fast closing sectional (48.17; 32.94). Stablemate GOLDEN MILE was ridden quietly off the pace with real class about the way he was getting into his work over the last 100m to finish third.

In other trials there was a lot to like about the strong third by the well performed mare BANANA QUEEN in the fastest heat over 1000m won by INEQUALITY (60.09; 34.09) while John O'Shea's maiden runner AMRAP looks ready to win after putting in impressive work over the last 200m to win his 800m heat in fast time (47.77; 33.04).

NOTED TRIALS
