Chris Scholtz previews the Winter Challenge meeting at Rosehill on July 22 with selections for all races, best bets, value plays, Trial Watch and Blackbook runners.
ROSEHILL July 22
Best Bets
RACE 3 - (7) BURRANDANA: Albury-trained gelding is screaming to win a Highway after two luckless efforts over 1400m at Randwick since resuming. Should have won last time after he was locked away in traffic before charging late when second to Chase My Crown and gets his chance here over the extra trip with a 2.5kg weight swing in his favour. Jason Collett stays on and he should take plenty from his first ride on the 4YO last time.
RACE 7 - (2) CHORLTON LANE: Heavy support pre-empted his Australian debut when he surged to an impressive win over 1300m in this class at this course three weeks ago, posting the fastest closing sectionals of the meeting. That was just his third career start and the step up in distance looks an ideal fit for him despite a 3kg rise in weight. Rates to progress to better things.
RACE 8 - (12) BARBIE'S FOX: No surprise top Victorian stable is giving this well performed mare another crack at black type in Sydney after her luckless last start fourth in the Listed Winter Stakes at Randwick when she was locked up in traffic from the 400m before finding the line better than any rival. Sure to relish this extra trip staying on the limit weight.
For Value
RACE 1 - (8) ELETTRICA: No luck in this company last time over 1400m at this course. Weighted to win this time.
RACE 2 - (8) LISTENTOZOU: Will be improved by his strong placing on the Kensington. Home track advantage and extra distance suits.
RACE 5 - (3) SO GOOD SO COOL: Strong back to back wins then found 1100m too short when back in distance. Favorably weighted and can use rails draw to his advantage.
RACE 6 - (12) PRINCIPESSA: Honest mare can go on with it after getting an overdue win last time. Will appreciate drop in weight and should enjoy a nice trail from soft gate.
RACE 9 - (7) SWEET RIDE: Classy 3YO fitter for his strong first-up fourth in Group company at Caulfield when pushed wide. Has the right course and distance form.

TRIAL POINTERS
RANDWICK JULY 14: Unraced Pierro colt LES VAMPIRES kept intact his unbeaten record in two trials, again showing he is a natural runner to lead and sprint clear for an easy win in his 1050m heat in sharp time (63.65; 34.72). Among the older heat winners the lightly raced PINK CASHMERE, an I Am Invincible filly from the Maher/Eustace team with one win from four starts in Victoria, looked sharp sprinting home fast to win the quickest 1050m heat (63.20; 34.53) after standing the leaders a big start.
WYONG July 10: In the open trials the last start winner GARRISON showed he had trained on well by doing all that was required for a soft win in his 1000m heat (59.78; 34.64) while a fresh DREAMDEEL sprinted to a big win in his 845m heat (50.53; 34.02), sharp work for a gelding not seen since he won over 1850m at Newcastle in April.
WARWICK FARM July 7: Group winner GLINT OF SILVER worked nicely to win his 1200m heat 73.21; 35.145) with nice work behind him from TAJNEED (4th). In another 1200m heat there was a lot to like about the late work of WOLLOMBI (2nd).
