Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney barrier trials at Warwick Farm on July 24.
WARWICK FARM July 24
15 Heats; Soft 5
Course Proper – 2 x 900m (Group/Listed)
Inside Grass – 2 x 1207m (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 3 x 802m (2 Open; 1 3YO); 3 x 800m (1 3YO; 2 2YO); 3 x 798m (3 2YO); 2 x 795m (2 2YO)
More black type trials on the course proper as some G1 stars start their spring build up.
HEAT 1 (900m): Tough gelding LOOKS LIKE ELVIS was revved up and made to sprint to the line over the last 300m for a strong win (54.06; 34.83) however the pick of the trial was the second by the classy mare ARGENTIA. She led easily but was never called on for a serious effort and was always working well within herself over the last 200m. The G1 winner ZOUGOTCHA also had an easy time finishing third while it was conditioning work for MO'UNGA, HOPE IN YOUR HEART and HINGED. MO'UNGA was held over for this this heat after a barrier mishap at the Rosehill trials on July 21.

HEAT 2 (900m): A brilliant turn of speed from BIG PARADE to open up a big lead an eventually record a stunning win by more than 20 lengths in fast time (52.40; 33.29). He's now won two trials since joining the Joe Pride stable and is well primed for a short course sprint first-up. The others including the outstanding filly IN SECRET never got out of a working gallop and raced in a bunch with no intent to chase the tearaway winner.

The 2YO heats on the inner track created plenty of interest with several promising efforts. There was plenty to like about the 798m heat win by NADAL (47.68; 34.56), an Xtravagant colt who has raced twice in Victoria for a Bendigo placing, while other youngsters with good prospects include KIMOCHI, LOST, MISSILE SEEKER, SIOVY DANE, TAVS and DISNECK.
