ROSEHILL August 11

18 Heats – Good 4

Course Proper – 1 x 1000m (Group/Listed); 2 x 900m (Group/Listed)

Inside Grass – 4 x 1030m (3 Open; 1 Maiden); 11 x 900m (4 Open; 2 3YO; 5 Maiden)

Abundant class was on show in the three course proper heats for the Group horses.

HEAT 1 (1000m): Tim Clark bounced ALLIGATOR BLOOD to the front before sprinting strongly from the 300m to win this trial by a soft 3.5 lengths (60.28; 33.67), a firm confirmation that has come on from his earlier trial at Randwick on July 28. He's in rude health and set for a big spring. Nice work from the top class mare MONTEFILIA to finish second in her first trial for her new trainer Chris Waller. COMMUNIST and HOO YA MAL had easy trials.

HEAT 2 (900m): Golden Slipper winner SHINZO showed the benefit of his first-up trial with strong win in the quicker of the two heats over the distance (56.54; 33.73). After settling three lengths off the leaders GOING GLOBAL and ZAAKI he put in strong work to take a split between them under a soft ride from James McDonald over the last 200m. Jamie Kah made the trip from Melbourne to ride ZAAKI in his first trial since the Doomben Cup in May and he was impressive holding his ground under no pressure after travelling on the outside of GOING GLOBAL.

HEAT 3 (900m): All eyes were on NATURE STRIP making his first appearance as a 9YO and he didn't disappoint finishing an impressive second behind the classy mare QUEEN OF THE BALL (57.13; 33.74). The winner made the pace with SUNSHINE IN PARIS and was never off the bit to extend sweetly over the last 200m while James McDonald allowed NATURE STRIP to find his rhythm sitting three deep a length or two off the lead before allowing him to work to the line under a good hold. The feature was his strong work for 150m after the line that will no doubt improve his fitness. SUNSHINE IN PARIS dropped off over the last 200m and will no doubt take improvement from the trial, as will ESPIONA and MILITARIZE.

The 15 heats on the course proper also featured a number of high class performers, among them MASKED CRUSADER, REMARQUE, KING COLORADO and WILLIAMSBURG.

REMARQUE dominated his 900m heat for a soft win in slow time (56.07; 34.41) while stablemate MASKED CRUSADER was under pressure to run home for third behind MUMBAI MUSE and WILLIAMSBURG in another 900m heat (55.63; 34.72).

JJ Atkins winner KING COLORADO responded to riding to come from off the pace to win his heat over 1030m (63.66; 35.38) from NAVAJO PEAK. TOO MUCH CAVIAR won the fastest of the four 1030m heats (63.16; 34.59) from ASCENSION and a quietly ridden INHIBITIONS.

Hawkes Racing had some pleasing results. Apart from REMARQUE and MASKED CRUSADER the stable dominated the maiden trials over 900m with excellent heat wins by ALLAPERCANTO (54.65; 34.84), MAKARENA (54.99; 34.71) and PRIMO (55.97; 36.45) and eye catching placings from SEKANI and KOSTROMA.

Unraced Snitzel filly MAKARENA was blackbooked after winning her first trial in March and her debut will be eagerly anticipated after confirming her promise with a classy surge to win her heat with ease. KOSTROMA is an unraced Deep Field filly with scope for big improvement after impressing with her a closing second in her 900m heat won by LET'S TRY (54.86; 34.39).
