TRIAL POINTERS

ROSEHILL August 11: Abundant class was on show in the three course proper heats for the Group horses. In the first heat over 1000m won by Alligator Blood (60.28; 33.67) nice work from MONTEFILIA to finish second in her first trial for her new trainer Chris Waller. In Heat 2 over 900m (56.54; 33.73) won by Shinzo Jamie Kah made the trip from Melbourne to ride ZAAKI in his first trial since May and he was impressive holding his ground to finish second under no pressure after travelling on the outside of the leader. In Heat 3 over 900m (57.13; 33.74) QUEEN OF THE BALL made the pace and was never off the bit to extend sweetly and hold an advantage for a strong win over Nature Strip. In other trials on the inside grass JJ Atkins winner KING COLORADO responded to riding to come from off the pace to win his heat over 1030m (63.66; 35.38).

WARWICK FARM August 4: A ground breaking win for the G1 star MO'UNGA in the first black type heat over 1000m as it was his first success in 17 barrier trial outings. He led comfortably and did all that was required to get the result (60.95; 34.63) narrowly from THINK IT OVER and BUENOS NOCHES. The trio worked home three abreast from the 300m with none of the three being fully extended. Out the back DUAIS had a quiet trial. Godolphin has quality mare PARISAL fully tuned to resume after an impressive win in her 900m heat (54.04; 34.25). While the time was leisurely she looked classy putting in her best work over the last 50m to get the better of the Derby winner MAJOR BEEL after sitting off him from the start. In the faster black type heat over 900m CYLINDER showed again he is one of Godolphin's best spring prospects with classy work to win in good time (53.60; 34.27).  He sat wide off the leaders but was travelling sweetly and had plenty in reserve getting the upper hand over the last 100m. Easy work by the good mare HINGED to finish fourth. In the heats on the A grass unbeaten filly TAORMINA is set to extend her sequence after cruising through her 813m heat for a soft win in the fastest of the four trials over the distance (47.59; 33.36); Had control from the start and was working well within herself to score by a clear margin under a soft ride.

CANTERBURY August 1: The first black type heat over 902m contained six G1 winners but the finish was all about one horse, the Rosehill Guineas winner LINDERMANN. After his impressive placing in his return trial at Rosehill on July 21 this trial was as good as you want to see from a horse on the cusp of a big spring campaign. He looked to have lengths in reserve working outside the lead before taking the upper hand in the last 200m under a hard held ride from Jay Ford, giving the impression he could have gone a lot quicker. (54.68; (32.98). A brilliant win by the Bjorn Baker-trained 4YO IKNOWASTAR in his open heat over 902m. He was keen to run from the start with Rachel King letting him stride away from the pack to lead by a big space, a margin he maintained as he ran fast time over the last 400m to score by eight lengths (52.77; 32.98). EXTREMELY LUCKY could be a real star in the making for his new trainer with the former South Australian showing his class to work home strongly from last in the third 902m heat (53.42; 33.70) for an impressive third, backing up a similar performance when he was second at Rosehill in his first Sydney trial on July 21

RANDWICK July 28: Quality filly NORTH STAR LASS led at good speed in the first heat over 1000m (60.78; 34.72) before finishing second to Golden Mile. She moved smoothly and her two trials have her primed for a bold first-up showing. In heat 3 over 900m QUEEN OF THE BALL also ran along in the lead and held her ground well to finish second to multiple G1 winner Alligator Blood (54.82;34.95).

WARWICK FARM July 24: More black type trials on the course proper. In Heat 1 over 900m the G1 winner ZOUGOTCHA had an easy time finishing third while it was conditioning work for MO'UNGA and HINGED. The 2YO heats in on the inner track created plenty of interest with with smart filly KIMOCHI working well to win her 800m heat (47.95; 34.48).

ROSEHILL July 21: An early alert that the new season is fast approaching with three heats on the course proper for black type performers. In Heat 1 over 1000m won by Goldman (62.31; 34.91) the Derby winner MAJOR BEEL led and was never extended to finish a soft second. In Heat 2 over 900m (56.68; 34.10) the trial that really took the eye was the strong third by the Rosehill Guineas winner LINDERMANN under a very easy ride from Nash Rawiller. In the third heat over 900m (56.62; 34.80) the eye catcher came from the former SA-trained 4YO EXTREMELY LUCKY putting in excellent work over the last 200m to finish second in his first appearance for the Waller stable. FANGIRL had a nice pipe opener to her preparation. On the inside grass the promising filly AUGUST BLOOM made an impression with her impressive third in her 900m heat that augers well for her spring prospects.

HAWKESBURY July 17: Godolphin won heats with their Group winner CYLINDER and the classy 3YO filly PARISAL. CYLINDER was too classy for lesser performed rivals in his 800m heat (48.87; 33.66). Others ran faster time but the Exceed And Excel colt looked in fine fettle settling a couple of lengths of the lead and tracking three wide under a quiet ride from James McDonald. He cruised into it from the 300m and easily went up a gear at the 100m to quickly put a margin on the chasers, running through the line under a big hold. PARISAL dominated her 800m heat from the front, cruising in front under Rachel King and looking a real professional extending smoothly to score a soft win by almost two lengths with a fast closing sectional (48.17; 32.94). There was a lot to like about the fastest 1000m heat won by INEQUALITY (60.09; 34.09).

RANDWICK July 14: PLATINUM JUBILEE showed good speed before she was run down by the subsequent winner Moravia in the fastest heat over 742m (43.66; 33.44). This was her first trial since she ran in the Golden Slipper and is sure to take plenty of benefit as she was not put under any great pressure over the last 100m. Among the older heat winners the quality filly NORTH STAR LASS was too classy for her rivals in a slow 742m heat for 3YO fillies (45.71; 34.88).
