ROSEHILL September 5

A Grass; Good 4

13 Heats – 4 x 1030m (3 Open; 1 Maiden); 9 x 900m (3 Open; 1 3YO; 5 Maiden)

Numerous Group performers went about their business in good style.

There was considerable depth in the open heats over both distances with the fastest heats won by HAWAII FIVE OH (1030m – 62.07; 34.85) and OVERPASS (900m – 54.32; 34.65).

HAWAII FIVE OH was given a strong conditioning trial, taking up the running and working strongly to the line with the classy mare RUTHLESS DAME improving nicely off her first-up trial to run on late for second.

The pair that really took the eye in this heat were MAZU and KING'S GAMBIT. MAZU has not been asked for a serious effort in both his trials and is coming up well for his return while the 3YO KING'S GAMBIT stumbled out of the gates and had to make up many lengths, sprinting keenly to the line overt the last 100m.

OVERPASS is on song for his return to racing, leading comfortably in his 900m heat and holding his advantage to the line for a soft win. The racy mare RED CARD put in her best work over the last 100m for second in a trial that reaffirmed that she is in the right form to perform first-up.

The classy pair BUENOS NOCHES and ZAPATEO dominated another 900m trial, recording a tick slower (54.34; 34.18) than the heat won by Overpass but notably running a faster closing sectional. ZAPATEO led out and was joined by BUENOS NOCHES at the 200m with both working well within themselves to the line. SPACEWALK also had plenty to offer finishing an easy fourth.

NEWCASTLE September 4

Beaumont Grass; Soft 5

17 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 8 x 1000m (3 Open; 5 Maiden); 7 x 800m (3 Open; 4 Maiden)

A stock standard session with good results for the Sam Kavanough (5 wins) and Nathan Doyle (4 wins) stables.

MY ELOISE (Nathan Doyle); Followed up her excellent Gosford trial win on August 25 with a soft win in the fastest 800m heat (46.41; 32.61). Sat outside the leader and extended under no pressure over the last 100m, pointing to a strong showing when she resumes.

The fastest 1000m trial was won in good style by the talented KAYOBI (59.62; 33.32) in a good heat where the runner-up LUCKY VARIETY also took the eye. Other 1000m heat winners to impress included OVERRIDING (60.61; 33.74) and the maidens MIDNIGHT OPAL (60.10; 34.06) and REIGNING KING (60.56; 33.97).

WARWICK FARM August 31

14 Heats – Polytrack

Synthetic – 3 x 1175m (3 Open); 11 x 740m (5 Open; 6 Maiden)

A full set on the synthetic surface. Never get excited when they use this surface, especially when eight of the 11 heats over 740m had only four or five runners.

There were some handy efforts but it can be a stretch to trust what you see as all-weather trial form can be unreliable.

NOTED TRIALS

X Athelric; Buillt; Cap Ferrat; Dark Halo; Felix Majestic; Lulumon; Rockola; Star Legacy; Unstopabull
