Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney and provincial barrier trials at Randwick (September 8), Hawkesbury (September 11) and Warwick Farm (September 12).
WARWICK FARM September 12
Inside Grass; Good 4
10 Heats – 2 x 1200m (Open); 3 x 789m (3 Open); 3 786m (1 Open; 2 Maiden); 2 x 782m (2 Maiden)
Exciting sprinter THINK ABOUT IT made his first appearance since his G1 double in Brisbane, recording a powerful heat win that augers well for his spring campaign.
COSTA SMERELDA (Ciaron Maher/David Eustace): Unraced Exceed And Excel filly reaffirmed the promise she showed in her first noted trial last month to win her 782m heat with authority (45.87; 33.69). Shared the lead (outside) but always travelling easily and extended under no pressure for a soft win.
THINK ABOUT IT (Joe Pride): Excellent start to his Everest campaign as he rolled home over the top of his rivals for an impressive win in the fastest 789m heat (46.46; 33.38). Sam Clipperton allowed him to find his legs settling second last and keeping him wide before letting him extend smoothly down the outside from the 350m.

FORMS OF FEAR has good trial form and again showed excellent speed to win the fastest of the heats over the shorter distances, clocking a quick 44.90 (32.76) in his 786m heat. The eye catchers in the shorter heats included KRISTILLI; CONSENZA, BETSY'S FLAG and MARCHESI.
Classy mare SHEEZA BELTER showed good form for her new trainer Annabel Neasham with a strong win in her 1200m heat (73.85; 35.21) in a heat where the Oaks winner AFFAIRE A SUIVRE stood out with an easy fifth under no pressure.

Chris Waller's good stayer CABOCHE sustained a long run from the rear at the 600m to win the other 1200m heat in quicker time (72.36; 35.28) but it was hard to miss the closing third of his new stablemate MEDATSU, a recent maiden arrival from NZ.

HAWKESBURY September 11
Inside Grass; Good 4
15 Heats – 1 x 1250m (Open); 5 x 1000m (2 Open; 3 Maiden); 9 x 800m (3 Open; 6 Maiden)
As usual James Cummings utilised the Hawkesbury trials to work a big team of Godolphin runners with pleasing results, winning four heats with many others taking the eye.
John O'Shea is another trainer who likes sending his horses from Randwick for Hawkesbury trials and he came away with three heat wins.
HIGHLAND EIGHTGEE (Mick Attard): This maiden 4YO gelding by Highland Reel produced the speed performance of the session, running away with his 800m heat to win by almost eight lengths in easily the fastest time of the nine trials over the distance (47.66; 32.55). Hasn't shown this speed in two race starts but improvement is imminent.
PIPISELLE (James Cummings): Third trial for this unraced Ribchester filly with her easy win in her 1000m heat (60.14; 34.17) a sure sign that she has good potential. Let down easily from off the pace and had plenty in reserve running away from her rivals.
RHETTARA (James Cummings): This I am Invincible mare has had only one start but has shown plenty of ability winning three trials over the last 12 months. While she may had issues she looks in good form to resume after sitting outside the leader in her 1000m heat before asserting herself under an easy ride for a soft win, leaving the third horse more than five lengths away.
Other Godolphin runners to capture attention included RAZORS, SEQUESTERED, MYSTERIO, CAPO STRADA, PORTRAY and DRIFT NET.

A Grass – 1 x 1200m (Open); 6 x 1040m (3 Open; 3 Maiden); 4 x 742m (1 Open; 3 Maiden)
A strong black type heat on the Kensington track featured several Everest contenders.
KING OF SPARTA led and was put under a ride to win the 850m heat (49.21; 33.01) but the stand out efforts came from noted G1 stars PRIVATE EYE and LOST AND RUNNING.
The first heat at Randwick this morning saw some super #TABEverest trials.

King Of Sparta found the line first from a fast finishing Private Eye - followed by Alcohol Free, Lost And Running, Red Resistance and Steel City. pic.twitter.com/WQwnuUvDsV
PRIVATE EYE improved sharply on his prior easy trial, responding when called on to put in nice work late for a close second while LOST AND RUNNING was trucking from start to finish and was the one with the most in reserve finishing fourth under a big hold. ALCOHOL FREE was a little flat late holding her ground to finish third.
In the open heats on the A grass the G1 Doomben Cup winner HUETOR looked strong running through the line under a good hold to finish fifth in the 1200m heat won by LAST STRAW (74.54; 35.10) while the G1 JJ Atkins winner KING COLORADO showed the benefit of his first-up ninth against the older horses in the Winx Stakes with a classy win in the fastest of the six heats over 1040m (62.15; 34.27).
A nice trial from the @cmaherracing-trained King Colorado, who charges home from well back.

The John O'Shea stablemates COTEHELE and PIZARRO were responsible for notable efforts in other 1040m heats.
The progressive COTEHELE won a fast heat (62.53; 34.30) in the style of a horse set for more success while the talented PIZARRO is sure to come on from a soft fifth in his heat won ITHADTOBEZOU (63.13; 34.71).
The open heat over 742m (43.25; 33.39) was won by GODFATHER from the fast finishing WONDEREACH. Both horses are good prospects for their right class while a smart win by BURGUNDY BUBBLES in her maiden heat (44.32; 34.13) points to improvement the next time she goes to the races.
