WARWICK FARM November 8

Inside Grass/Polytrack; Good 4

17 Heats – 4 x 1209m (2 Open; 2 Maiden); 4 x 818m (4 Open); 4 x 815m (1 Open; 3 2YO); 3 x 812m (3 C1/Maiden)

Poly – 1 x 740m (Open)

You would be rich if you could bet on Waterhouse/Bott youngsters in barrier trials.

The 2YO factory keeps rolling out precocious juveniles and they produced another pair of smart runners with STORM BOY and TOQUE speeding to big margin wins in their heats over 815m.

STORM BOY backed up from an easy win in his first trial at Rosehill on October 27 to record another sharp win in his 815m heat (47.42; 33.40) by almost six lengths. The Justify colt was ridden up to lead and kept running, typical of the way Waterhouse and Bott want their youngsters to trial.

Street Boss filly TOQUE was more impressive in her first trial, mustering from a slow start to speed away to a big lead and cruise home by seven lengths in faster time (47.10; 33.30). Both have the natural speed to win races.

Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle brought the Royal Meeting filly BODY OF VENUS to town for her first trial and he also showed good natural ability to easily win the third 2YO heat in much slower time (48.81; 34.75. However she led by six on the turn and could have gone much quicker as she was throttled down over the last 150m to win the heat by two lengths with plenty in reserve.

It was standard fare in most open and maiden heats with a couple of exceptions.

I liked the way MAZ KANATA, a Va Pensiero mare who won her only start last season in a country maiden, went about her work to win her 818m heat (48.28; 34.32). SHORT SHORTS and TERRA MATER were other good winners in the shorter heats while MILITARY EXPERT and LONG TYCOON looked good running to easy wins in their 1200m trials.

ROSEHILL November 6

Inside Grass; Soft 7

13 Heats – 3 x 1030m (1 Open; 2 Maiden); 10 x 900m (3 Open; 3 2YO; 4 Maiden)

CASSIEL (Peter & Paul Snowden): Unraced 3YO by Harry Angel is a natural runner and will be well fancied on debut after winning two of his three trials since July. Showed a good change of gears to extend at the right time and cruise to a soft win in his 1030m heat (63.19; 35.97).

GITALONG (Hawkes Racing): Zoustar 3YO gelding has had four well spaced runs for one placing but looks ready to improve after a sharp win in his first trial since March. Untroubled to lead and had plenty to offer running smoothly to the line in his 900m heat to win bgy three lengths in good time for the conditions (54.70; 34.56).

NOTED TRIALS

XX Cassiel; Gitalong

X Erno's Cube; Getty; Headwall; Long Memory; Ravisher; Reasonable Doubt; Space Tracker

JAGJIT (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott); Justify 3YO was placed in his first two starts in May and June and should be winning his maiden some time soon after an impressive return to win his1050m heat by almost three lengths (62.69; 34.53). Travelled widest from the start but was always under a good hold and had no trouble putting them away when asked to extend off the turn.
