ROSEHILL January 25

16 Heats – Good 4

Course Proper - 1 x 1000m (Group/Listed); 1 x 900m (Group/Listed)

Inside Grass – 4 x 1030m (1 Open; 2 Maiden; 1 2YO); 10 x 900m (1 Open; 4 2YO; 2 3YO; 3 Maiden)

Black type trials on the course proper were supported by some quality performances in the heats for two and three-year-olds.

ENHANCE (Gerald Ryan/Sterling Alexiou): This stylish Exceed And Excel colt recorded the fastest win in the 2YO heats over 900m (54.49; 34.60), showing nice improvement off his first trial when second at Rosehill on January 11. Led comfortably and had plenty in reserve over the last 200m to score by almost three lengths. Nice efforts behind from PRESIDENT and CHRISTIANSEN.

MAKARENA (Hawkes Racing): Finished an impressive fourth in a strong 3YO fillies heat where the winner LOST posted the fastest time in the 900m heats (53.75; 34.25) after travelling three wide. MAKARENA looked top shelf winning back to back races in September and October and her strong work under an easy ride in this trial was a perfect start to her autumn campaign.

The sad news in the aftermath was the pastern injury to ALLIGATOR BLOOD that will sideline him for months and may mean the end of his racing career. He suffered the injury in a track gallop 48 hours after he appeared at this trial session where he looked right on top of his game winning his trial with ease.

ALLIGATOR BLOOD had jogged to win his first-up trial at this course on January 11 and followed up with another equally good win at this session in his 1000m heat on the course proper. The chasers NAVAJO PEAK and AUTUMN BALLET couldn't make ground on him when called on from the 200m, leaving DIAMIL to work home nicely for a strong second.

The black type heat over 900m (54.55; 34.27) was won in a three way drive to the line by the 3YO WEST OF DALBY from LINDERMANN with RED RESISTANCE a close third in his first trial since a setback kept him sidelined through the spring. RED RESISTANCE led from LINDERMANN while WEST OF DALBY tracked three wide with all three going to the line together under quiet rides.

Horses to follow from the open heats include SALTCOATS and THE SWOOPER while the good performances in the 2YO heats included QATARS CHOICE, FLY FLY, PUSHPA, EVERYBODY RISE and TRAFFIC WARDEN.

The noted runners from the maiden heats include OVERVIEW, OCEANS QUIET and MARCHESI.
