TRIAL POINTERS
ROSEHILL January 25: Stylish Exceed And Excel colt ENHANCE recorded the fastest win in the 2YO heats over 900m (54.49; 34.60), showing nice improvement off his first trial when second at Rosehill on January 11. Led comfortably and had plenty in reserve over the last 200m to score by almost three lengths. LOST posted the fastest time in the 900m heats (53.75; 34.25) after travelling three wide. Horses to follow from the open heats include SALTCOATS while the good performances in the 2YO and maiden heats included PUSHPA, OVERVIEW and MARCHESI.
RANDWICK January 22: The fastest 850m heat winner on the Kensington track was PROST (48.45; 32;62) in a strong trial. Breeders Plate winner MANAAL took the eye with his late work through the line under no pressure. In the two 2YO trials over 1050m on the A Grass FEARLESS won the quicker of the two trials (61.81; 34.00) while COUNTEROFFENSIVE had a bit on his rivals in the other heat (61.90; 33.76) and is one to keep an eye on. In the shorter 741m heats the flying filly LADY OF CAMELOT was again too quick for her rivals to score by almost three lengths (42.44; 32.56) while another Waterhouse/Bott speedster ALINEA really took the eye with her impressive win in the faster 741m heat (42.40; 32.37) by a soft 3.4 lengths. She never came off the bit and looked to have a lot more to offer over the latter stages. In the open and maiden heats for the older horses the better winners included SMART LEGEND, MERCHANT LADY and SILVER CLIFF.
CANTERBURY January 9: There were numerous good 2YO trials but none matched the brilliance of Written Tycoon filly LADY OF CAMELOT as she sped away with her 899m heat by more than nine lengths in the fastest time of the morning (53.17; 33.10). Several other 2YOs reaffirmed the talent they had displayed earlier in the season in trials and races including strong placings from MANOS and Breeders Plate winner MANAAL.
WARWICK FARM January 2: Excellent return by talented 4YO WHINCHAT in his first trial since October. Travelled strongly three and four wide outside a line of leaders in his 815m heat before cruising to the front turning for home. Jay Ford then sat like a statue and put the gelding under no pressure as he finished an easy second (47.86; 33.25). He's won three of his eight starts up to 1400m and is sure to build on that record.
RANDWICK December 11: The 740m open heats featured a promising win by the Wellington Boot winner EVERLONG (43.55; 33.29), a filly now in the Waterhouse/Bott stable.
RANDWICK October 6: The 2YO heat over 740m was won in smart time (42.98; 32.62) by MANOS, a stylish Snitzel colt from the Snowden stable.
