RANDWICK February 7

15 Heats; Soft 5

Course Proper: 1 x 1000m (Group/Listed); 1 x 900m (Group/Listed)

Randwick A Grass: 1 x 1200m (Open); 7x 1050m (3 Open; 1 2YO; 3 Maiden); 5 x 742m (1 Open; 2 2YO; 2 3YO)

More Group trials pointing to the autumn carnival.

HEAT 1 (1000m): PALMETTO got the better of the leader PERFECT THOUGHT after they walked through the first half and sprinted the last 300m (60.56; 34.53). PALMETTO went home under less pressure while crack sprinter BUENOS NOCHES was put under a ride and went OK to finish a close third. STROKE OF LUCK settled at the rear and put in nice work late.

HEAT 2 (900m): The class of G1 winner RUTHLESS DAME came to the fore as she put in an impressive sprint over the last 200m to come from five lengths off the lead and win the heat (54.31; 35.42) under a cold ride from Jason Collett. Golden Slipper winner SHINZO was also working to the line under no pressure to finish third in a trial that is sure to improve his fitness.

There were two standout trials on the A Grass.

MARTIAL MUSIC (Anthony Cummings): Impressive work from this Your Song 4YO to truck though his 1050m heat in fast time (62.95; 33.59). Travelled under a big hold clear of the chasers and had plenty in reserve coasting through the line, form that indicates he will be well placed in a low class race having won only twice from 10 starts.

SCHWARZ (John O'Shea): This Zoustar 3YO is a real talent as he showed jumping quickly in class to win two of his first three starts. He travelled three wide in his 742m heat before putting the trial to bed in the fastest time over the distance (42.73; 33.06) in his first trial since he won at Flemington in November. He's heading for Group races.

ROSEHILL February 5

15 Heats; Good 4

Course Proper: 1 x 1000m (Group/Listed); 2 x 900m (Group/Listed)

Inside Grass: 4 x 1030m (2 Open; 1 Maiden; 1 2YO); 8 x 900m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 2 3YO; 2 Maiden)

Another round of course proper trials for the Group horses preparing for the autumn.

HEAT 1 (1000m): LINDERMANN is becoming a reliable trial performer, turning in another impressive effort to win this heat (59.24; 34.27) under no pressure to back up his strong placing in his first-up trial at this course on January 25. He's ready to perform. ATTRACTABLE took up the running but LINDERMANN had him well covered from the 400m. Behind them the stayers ARAPAHO, NAVAJO PEAK, SERPENTINE and MILITARY MISSION were having quiet trials.

HEAT 2 (900m): Easy work for classy sprinter KING OF SPARTA to lead and hold his advantage to the line in slow time (55.05; 34.35). MUMBAI MUSE was the one to impress with her surging finish to close down the margin to a half length under a big hold from her rider Tommy Berry. She will be a filly to be reckoned with through the carnival. PRIVATE EYE had another quiet trial but he was more prominent sitting four wide from the start and just going about his work under no pressure.

HEAT 3 (900m): A jump and run trial from the winner FACILE in good time (54.21; (34.50). GOLDEN MILE impressed with his strong third after covering ground while IN SECRET and OLENTIA warmed to their work over the last 100m to finish fourth and fifth.

The stars of the trials on the inside grass were ARCTIC GLAMOUR, FLY FLY, RED CARD and SHORT SHORTS.

ARCTIC GLAMOUR (Gerald Ryan/Sterling Alexiou): Classy filly is set for a good prep after she worked home under no pressure for a soft win over her equally talented stablemate MAKARENA. They could have easily improved on the slow time (55.13; 34.98).

FLY FLY (Hawkes Racing): This Trapeze Artist filly has now won two trials and is set for a good debut after this impressive effort. Not the fastest of the 2YO heats (54.45; 35.10) – that honour went to the Breeders Plate winner ESPIONAGE (53.76; 34.25) - but she really looked the part with her strong work from the back under an easy ride.

RED CARD (James Cummings): We know this 4YO is a good mare, especially when fresh, and it seems she's getting stronger after she made her early name with speed. Settled kindly behind the lead in a quick 900m heat (54.00; 34.46) and never came off the bit to take control over the last 200m. She was held down and could have put a good margin on her rivals.

SHORT SHORTS (Brad Widdup): Easy as you like for this smart mare to win her 1030m heat under a big hold by almost three lengths while running easily the quickest time of the four heats over the distance (61.89; 35.31). She strode clear from the start and was always travelling well within herself, a sure indicator that she can add to her excellent fresh record, having recorded three of her five wins when first-up.

HAWKESBURY February 1

Inner Track; Good 4

16 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 5 x 1000m (1 Open; 1 2YO; 3 Maiden); 9 x 800m (3 Open; 3 2YO; 3 Maiden)

Godolphin used this session to kick start the autumn programs of some of their leading lights and would have been pleased with the results.

ZAPATEO trialled as you would expect from a sprinter of her class, doing all that was required to win her 800m heat with plenty in reserve (47.09; 31.17). It was hard to miss the strong fifth of AFT CABIN making ground from last with impressive work in his first trial since he last raced in the Stradbroke last June.

G1 winner TOM KITTEN also impressed with his close second in his 800m trial won by YISKA (48.24; 33.54). He tracked three wide under a big hold, warming to his task in great style over the last 100m with a lot to offer through the line. YISKA, off the scene since last April and now in the Michael Freedman stable, sprinted quickly from last to get the upper hand on the line.

Other Godolphin runners to trial well included MARQUESS, KALLOS, ROSE CODE, TURBINADO and PIPISTRELLE.

WYONG Jan 31

Course Proper; Good 4

18 Heats – 7 x 1000m (4 Open; 3 Maiden); 11 x 845m (3 2YO; 4 Open; 4 Maiden)

QUICK TEMPO (Mark Minervini): Smart sprinter has had a nice freshen since he last raced in early December. Easily took up the running in his strong open heat over 845m (51.03; 34.24) and worked smoothly under a tight hold to win unextended by more than two lengths.

SQUAMISH (Nathan Doyle): Unraced 3YO by Star Turn is doing well for his new trainer judging by this sharp trial.  It was his second trial since his transfer from Brett Cavanough and he worked well within himself to coast home in his 1000m heat by 2.55 lengths in good time (59.88; 35.20).
