Arrowfield Stud shuttler Mikki Isle (Deep Impact) sired his first stakes winner on Sunday as his daughter Meikei Yell (2 f ex Shiroinger by Harbinger) landed the Kokura Nisai Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Kokura.

Last seen breaking her maiden over course and distance on August 22, the two-year-old filly overcame trouble in running to beat Mondreise (Daiwa Major) by a length and a quarter, while Fodla (Lord Kanaloa) finished another four lengths further adrift in third.

Purchased by Nagoya Keiba Co for ¥26,000,000 (approximately $330,000) at the 2019 JRHA Select Yearling and Foal Sale, the filly is out of Shiroinger (Harbinger), who is herself a daughter of Listed scorer Yuckichan (Kurofune).

Further afield the filly’s fifth dam is Grade 2 winner Storm And Sunshine (Star De Naskra) - the dam of fellow Grade 2 scorer Smile Again (Wild Again) and Listed-scoring duo Montecito (Seeking The Gold) and Halo Sunshine (Halo).

The Shadai Stallion Station-based Mikki Isle has stood at Arrowfield Stud for the past three seasons, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic the stallion will not return to Australia for the 2020 season. His first Australian-bred crop will be two next season and at the yearling sales this year 29 lots sold at an average of $46,099 and a top price of $250,000.
