Pensioned stallion Kurofune (French Deputy) died at Shadai Stallion Station due to the infirmities of old age. He was 23.

“Kurofune died due to old age,” said Eisuke Tokutake of Shadai Stallion Station to www.hochi.news.

“The horse had not been feeling well the past two months and passed on January 17. He was a multi-purpose sire and had excellent results regardless of turf or dirt, and he was popular as a stallion and worked hard for 17 seasons until 2018. He was a very friendly horse and was well received by the staff.”

On the track Kurofune won six times from ten starts including four times at Listed level and he was crowned Champion dirt horse in Japan in 2001.

Kurofune has sired 35 stakes winners which are headed by six Group / Grade 1 winners in Curren Chan, Whale Capture, Aerolithe, Sodashi, Sleepless Night and Clarity Sky. As a broodmare sire his daughters have produced 13 stakes winners to date including Grade 1 winners Chrono Genesis (Bago) and Normcore (Harbinger).
