Buyers for the Asian market flexed their muscle at the Magic Millions 2YOs In Training Sale on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

The $500,000 Toronado colt who topped the sale was just one of a number of top lots who will race north of Australia.

The A List Stud colt who is a half-brother to Don'ttelltheboss, being out of the Haradasun mare Canterbury Hill, was bought by Hong Kong-based buyer Vicky Tang.

A List Stud also had the second top lot, a filly by I Am Invincible out of the Galileo mare Defy The Odds, who is the dam of South Australian Derby winner Leicester, who sold to Singapore buyers for $480,000.

The $340,000 Starspangledbanner colt who was the third highest-priced lot of the day was bought by Hong Kong trainer Manfred Man.

"It was great to have a lot of our international guests back here on the Gold Coast enjoying the Magic Millions hospitality and having a good time and obviously supporting the sale," Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said.

"Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines were all very, very strong.

"All in all, vendors that had quality horses here who were willing to meet the market did very, very well. In a lot of cases they exceeded their expectations by a long way.

"Type is key. Type and breeze-up is what sells well here. The vendors who went to the yearling sales with a discerning eye and spent their money wisely have come to this sale and done extremely well.

"What disappoints me that there were plenty of buyers who came to the sale, be they internationally or locally, have probably gone away empty handed or with not as many horses as they would have liked.

"I hope we can grow our vendor base and increase how many horses each of them bring to the sale next year because today's market proved that this is the right place to be selling these horses and we could do with plenty more here in the sale."

All up, $6,717,000 changed hands across 80 lots sold at an average of $83,963 with a clearance rate of 75 percent.

"Every number is up; we sold more horses above $200,000 than we did last year, we sold more horses over $100,000, the average was up, the clearance was better, the gross is up and it's off a smaller catalogue," Bowditch said.

"So, they're all the numbers that should give vendors confidence that this is a really viable component to our industry and that you can sell a horse really well here at the Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale."
