Official Gold Coast Yearling Sale inspections do not start until next Wednesday, but James Mcdonald's Magic Millions inspections are already well advanced and will continue in Brisbane this Saturday.

The champion jockey will test-drive another contender for the $2.5 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic when he partners Sunsource in the 2YO Handicap that is the second race on the Doomben card.

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained son of Zoustar will become the sixth youngster at $15 or shorter in TAB's all-in market on the January 14 event that McDonald has ridden in either a race or trial.

It will happen against a horse that McDonald partnered to victory in a key Millions lead-up at their previous start.

Sovereign Fund won the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic on December 14 but McDonald has given up the seat aboard that son of Capitalist to partner Sunsource, who brilliantly won the Victorian Magic Millions lead-up at Ballarat on November 19.

McDonald's defection paves the way for Jamie Kah to take the mount on Sovereign Fund.

Magic Millions favourite, at $5, is Empire Of Japan, who is raced in similar interests to Sovereign Fund, and that son of Snitzel has had McDonald aboard for his two starts, which include Group 3 Breeders Plate success.

Next in betting are Platinum Jubilee ($7) and The Novelist ($9), followed by Choisir filly Empress Of Wonder ($9), who had Chad Schofield aboard when second last time out in the Calaway Gal Stakes but was ridden by McDonald on debut, when second to Charm Stone at Flemington.

McDonald also rode $15 chance Snapback when that Snitzel colt was beaten as a short-priced favourite on debut and while he has not ridden Godfather, who is also at $15, in a race he was aboard the I Am Invincible colt in his two trials.
