A look at some of the Easter yearlings who are siblings to Group 1 winners.
The Inglis Easter Yearling Sale kicks off in Sydney on Monday and, as always, there are a host of well-related types being offered including the 10 siblings to Group 1 winners listed below.
Lot 18 – Half-brother to Pride Of Dubai: Buyers don't have to wait long to have the chance to get their hands on a sibling to a Group 1 winner with a handful to go through the ring in the first hour of the sale, including a colt by American Pharoah out of Danehill mare Al Anood, who is the dam of Blue Diamond and ATC Sires' winner Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry).
Lot 36 – Brother to Russian Revolution: The owners of Ballet D'amour would have been thrilled to see the daughter of Stravinsky deliver a colt after her meeting with Snitzel in 2020. He shapes as one of the most attractive stallion prospects in the catalogue. Not only is he a brother to Russian Revolution, a dual Group 1 winner who is now one of Australia's best young stallions, but also closely-related to Home Affairs (I Am Invincible), who is out of Miss Interiors, a daughter of Ballet D'amour.
Lot 69 – Half-brother to Mazu and Headway: Flying Spur mare Chatelaine is an experienced mare, having produced 10 foals, the first of which was Coolmore Stud Stakes winner and Golden Slipper runner-up Headway (Charge Forward). She has had four to race since, the most recent being last year's Doomben 10,000 winner and Saturday's TJ Smith Stakes third placegetter Mazu. Her colt that will be offered by Parsons Creek a couple of hours into Day 1 is by Toronado.
Lot 123 – Half-sister to Mossfun: Fairview Park Stud is selling the filly by Dundeel out of Eye For Fun, who is the dam of 2014 Golden Slipper winner Mossfun (Mossman). Eye For Fun, a daughter of Snitzel, has had five to race for as many winners, including Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) winner Dajraan. Residual will be part of the appeal, particularly after Mossfun's first foal Tumooh – a daughter of Fastnet Rock who never raced – produced a colt by I Am Invincible who sold for $1.6 million at Magic Millions earlier this year.
Lot 153 – Half-brother to Artorius: Artorius's win in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes was timely for Vinery Stud and those associated with his dam Gracie's Lass, who has a Deep Field half-brother to the son of Flying Artie – who also won the 2021 Blue Diamond Stakes – to be offered.
Lot 208 – Sister to Loving Gaby: Maastricht's first trip to the breeding was for a meeting with I Am Invincible, which produced two-time Group 1 winner Loving Gaby and Kia Ora is offering a filly who is a result of a return visit to the Yarraman Park stallion. That also makes her a sister to Greece, who was a $1.2 million yearling. Maastricht also had a colt by Justify sell for $1m at this sale last year, while Loving Gaby's first foal – a colt by Pierata – sold for $800,000 on the Gold Coast in January.
Lot 281 – Brother to Verry Elleegant: Any time a sibling to a Melbourne Cup winner goes through the ring it generates interest and all eyes will be on the colt by Zed out of Opulence, which is the breeding of 2021 Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant, when Lime Country Thoroughbreds offers him a couple of hours into Day 2.
Lot 310 – Brother to Estijaab: Estijaab, a daughter of Snitzel and Group 1 winner Response, was one of the highest-priced yearlings of her year, selling for $1.7m, a price tag she justified with her win in the 2018 Golden Slipper. Her brother sold for $2.25m at this sale last year and Arrowfield Stud will offer what is Response's sixth foal by their champion stallion.
Lot 339 – Half-sister to Prosperous Voyage: Prosperous Voyage is not a name followers of Australian racing will be all that familiar with, but the daughter of Zoffany defeated star filly Inspiral in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes (1609m) last year, having earlier finished runner-up in the 1000 Guineas over the same trip. Her dam Seatone (Mizzen Mast) has had five to race, all being winners, and Coolmore will offer her daughter by Camelot on Day 2.
Lot 362 – Half-sister to Yes Yes Yes: OK, so Yes Yes Yes did not win a Group 1 race, but he did win The Everest and for that reason Kitchwin Hills' filly by Snitzel out of Sin Sin Sin (Fantastic Light) will be sought-after. The Snitzel filly is only the second living female foal from Sin Sin Sin (Fantastic Light), whose first foal was now 10-year-old mare Dee Nine Elle.
