Sekani is one of the outsiders in Wednesday's second race at Randwick's Kensington meeting, but the market won't reflect the level of interest in the Hawkes Racing colt's debut performance.

The three-year-old is a half-brother to Group 1 winner Profondo, who was once touted as the most exciting horse in the country.

By Dundeel, Sekani is the third foal from the Redoute's Choice mare Honesty Prevails, whose first to race was Profondo.

The highest-priced lot of the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2019 at $1.9 million, Profondo is by Deep Impact and did not debut until September 1 of his three-year-old season, winning at Warwick Farm, and two starts later won the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

Honesty Prevails' other named-foal is $1.15m yearling Custodian, a now-gelded son of Shalaa who registered his second win at start number nine last time out in a benchmark 72 at the Kensington track.

Despite having not yet raced, trainers Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes put up a Cox Plate nomination for Sekani, a $1m Inglis Easter purchase who had one trial back in February – finishing sixth of eight at Rosehill.

His first trial this time in was at the same course on July 21, finishing fifth of 10 over 900m, while he hit the line well under light riding to finish second to Starboard over 900m at Rosehill on August 11.

A $21 chance with TAB on Wednesday, Sekani has drawn barrier 11 in the 13-horse field with Jason Collett to take the ride.

He is not the only blueblood in the 1300m maiden with Dubious' half-brother Suspect (I Am Invincible x Suspicieuse), last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast sale-topper at $1.9m – to have his second start after a debut third placing at Warwick Farm on August 9.
