Kandinsky Abstract is the equal third highest-priced yearling ever sold in Australia, but the Chris Waller-trained colt already has something up on the two who sold for more.

The brother to Sunlight won his only start to date, in a 1200m Canterbury maiden on May 3, and will chase Stakes success at start number two when he contests Saturday's $250,000 Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

He was a $3 million by for Tom Magnier at last year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The only more expensive yearlings sold in Australia are the Redoute's Choice-Helsinge half-brother to Black Caviar who sold for $5 million at the 2013 Inglis Easter Sale, the same place a Fastnet Rock-River Dove colt for $4 million.

The Redoute's Choice colt, who was known as Jimmy, died before he got to the track while the Fastnet Rock colt who raced as Emaratee finished second at his only two starts.

The other $3 million colts sold in Australia are the Rock Of Gibraltar-L'on Vite colt who raced as Mount Olympus and won one race – a Newcastle maiden – while the Redoute's Choice colt who sold for $3 million at Easter 2006 headed to South Africa, where he won one race under Charles Laird.

Kandinsky Abstract is the eighth foal from the Charge Forward mare Solar Charged, whose first three foals – Solar Girl, Solar Cry and Sheikha – were modestly-performed before she produced a star after her first visit to Zoustar.

That foal was Sunlight, who won a Magic Millions 2YO Classic and three Group 1 races before retiring and being sold for $4.2m at Magic Millions' National Broodmare Sale.

Solar Charged's fifth foal Sisstar, also by Zoustar, was a Group 3 winner, while her only two others to race are Halogen (Sebring) and Dio (Zoustar), who have one win apiece.

Solar Charged's Zoustar filly that followed Kandinsky Abstract sold for $2.6 million at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while last year she had a colt by Widden Stud's champion stallion.

Kandinsky Abstract's preparations for his return to the track have included two trials in August, including victory at his most recent, and champion jockey James McDonald will take the mount in the San Domenico Stakes.
