Relations to two of Chris Waller’s Oaks winners to clash on debut.
There is a distinct Queensland Oaks flavour to the first race at Wednesday's Canterbury meeting with two debutants in the 1250-metre event closely related to winners of the Brisbane Classic.
The Chris Waller-trained Omelette is a son of Egg Tart, winner of the Queensland Oaks in 2017, the year before her former stablemate Youngstar won the 2200-metre event.
Doradus, Anthony Cummings' representative in Wednesday's three-year-old event, is a half-brother to Youngstar (High Chaparral).
She is one of two Group 1 winners out of the Danehill mare Starspangled, who also produced Flight Stakes winner Funstar who, like Doradus, is by Adelaide.
Starspangled's first foal was Galileo mare Baggy Green, the dam of four-time Group 1 winner Tofane, last year's The Metropolitan winner No Compromise and last-start Wyong Cup winner Benaud.
They are among 10 named foals from Starspangled, whereas Omelette is the only foal from Egg Tart.
A daughter of Sebring, Egg Tart won the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) the start before her Queensland Oaks success and placed in a George Main Stakes (1600m) and Doomben Cup (2000m) at the highest level before being retired at the end of her five-year-old season.
That afforded her the chance to race against Youngstar at open age with their only clash coming in the 2018 Tramway Stakes, in which Egg Tart finished fifth, half-a-length clear of Youngstar.
Like Egg Tart, Omelette is trained by Waller and will carry the Hermitage Thoroughbreds colours, which were also carried by her sire The Autumn Sun.
Omelette is the only foal from Egg Tart, who died shortly after foaling him in October 2020.
Doradus's preparations for debut have included just one official trial, for a sixth placing over 742m at Randwick last Friday, while Omelette has had three career trial, including two fifth placings at Rosehill this campaign.
Doradus, who has the services of Sam Clipperton, will start from the inside barrier with Omelette to start alongside in two with Nash Rawiller to ride.
