It only took 24 hours for Wednesday's record price for a two-year-old at New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready To Run Sale to first be equalled, then bettered, with a youngster by Star Turn setting a new top mark at the famed sale.

The KB Bloodstock-prepared colt, who went through in the final 30 minutes of the sale, got to $825,000 before being knocked down to Pato Leung.

That was $25,000 more than Kilgravin Lodge's Harry Angel colt went for midway through Wednesday's opening day, while a Riversley Park gelding by All Too Hard equalled that mark on Day 2.

Young vendor Kit Brooks struggled to comprehend what the star lot of his draft, who had the second-fastest breeze-up time of 10.24 seconds, had achieved.

"It's unbelievable really, I'm pretty stoked and happy for the team and all involved," Brooks said.

"He's a lovely big horse, we've always liked him and knew he'd be worth a bit, but certainly not that much so we're pretty ecstatic."

Brooks' Star Turn colt is from the Foxwedge mare Commonwealth, who is out of a half-sister to Group 1 winners Criterion and Comin' Though plus a host of other Black Type performers.

Not long after he sold, a Deep Field colt from Ohukia Lodge sold to HY Investments for $750,000, which took to 12 the number of two-year-olds who sold for at least $500,000 – five more than the same sale last year.

Thursday's second day also included the highest-priced filly sold in the sale's history, a daughter of Super Seth who is a half-sister to Queensland Derby winner and Epsom Handicap runner-up Kovalica who sold to Laming Racing and John White for $700,000.

The top lots of the sale were:

$825,000 (Star Turn x Commonwealth colt): A son of Vinery the stallion who is out of a Foxwedge mare who is closely-related to globe-trotting multiple Group 1 winner Criterion, Doomben Cup winner Comin' Through. He was bought by Pato Leung.
