Godolphin set a new mark for the highest-priced paid for a horse at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale when it won a gripping battle for a son of superstar Coolmore stallion Justify.

Anthony Stroud went to €2.3 million, the equivalent of AU$3.76m, for the colt out of High Chaparral mare Inchargeofme.

The price easily eclipsed the previous record of €1.4 million, which had stood for seven years.

Stroud outlasted Coolmore in the battle for the colt who was offered for sale by Norman Williamson's Oak Tree Farm.

"He's a colt that really stood out," Stroud said.

"We really liked his breeze on Thursday and we really wanted to bring him back to Moulton Paddocks.

"His sire, Justify, has had very good results and he's a remarkable stallion. We're very happy."

Inchargeofme, who was retired after two starts but placed at Group 3 level in the US, is out of the Cape Cross mare Inchmina, who is also the dam of Group 1 placegetters Johann Strauss and Mythical, who also won at Group 3 level.

Group 1 winners Harbour Law, Miss Keller and Poet's World also appear on the pedigree page.
