The John Joseph Murphy-trained Sweet Gardenia (2 f ex Penny Royale by Monsieur Bond) added valuable black-type to her CV when she landed the Coolmore Churchill Stakes (Listed, 7½f) at Tipperary on Saturday and in the process handed former Haunui Farm shuttler Showcasing (Oasis Dream) with his 45th stakes winner.

The two-year-old filly stayed on gamely to repel the advances of Ontario (Galileo), beating him by a length with another half a length back to Vafortino (New Bay) in third.

Bred by Whitsbury Stud and purchased by her trainer and Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 57,000gns at Book 2 of the 2019 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, the filly is the first winner out of dual winner Penny Royale (Monsieur Bond), who is herself a half-sister to Listed winner Royal Rascal (Lucky Story).

Further back this is the same family as Grade 3 winner Tigah (Dalakhani) and Listed scorer Mamma’s Too (Skyliner).

Showcasing’s progeny is headed by Group 1-winning trio Mohaather, Quiet Reflection and Advertise and he stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud where his fee in 2020 was advertised as £55,000.
