The Roger Fell-trained Pockley (2 c ex Wanting by Acclamation) shed his maiden tag at the fifth time of asking and in the process handed Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) with his 17th first-crop winner.

Last seen finishing at Lingfield, the two-year-old colt battled back to beat Navajo Spring (Charm Spirit) by a short-head, while  Camerily Joe (Helmet) was another three and a half further back in third.

The colt was purchased by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for £82,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling, before being snapped up up by his trainer for £35,000 at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale earlier in the year.

The colt is the first foal out of the three time winning Acclimation (Royal Applause) mare Wanting, who is herself a sister to Listed winner Parliament Square, who was also placed at Group 1 level.

Further back this is the same family as Group 1 winners Veracious (Frankel) and Garswood (Dutch Art).

Shalaa got off to the perfect start in Australia when his son Shaquero landed the Breeders' Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) on Saturday. He is standing his fourth season in Australia for an unchanged fee of $33,000 (inc GST).
