Daylami (Doyoun) has died due to infirmities of old age at the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud in Ireland. He was 29.

Bred by the Aga Khan, Daylami placed second in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud (2000m) as a two-year-old having won his first two starts. During his Classic season, he won the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (1600m) and placed three times at Group 1 level before transferring from the stable of Alain de Royer Dupre to Godolphin.

Under the care of Saeed bin Suroor he added two more Group 1 races to his resume at four and another four at five, with his final start being a winning one in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf (12f) at Gulfstream Park in November 1999. He won 11 of his 21 starts between 1996, only ever finishing out of the first three on three occasions.

A better racehorse than he was stallion, he stood his first season at stud in Ireland in 2000 and also stood in France and South Africa.

As a stallion his progeny include the 2004 Group 1 Irish Derby (1m4f) winner Grey Swallow and fellow Group 1 winner Voila Ici, while his son Indian Days was a multiple Group winner. He is also the broodmare sire of Group 1 winners including Arcano, Grand Glory, Logician and Pierro.

A statement from the Aga Khan Studs read: "As a stallion, Daylami had enjoyed a happy retirement with the Aga Khan Studs back at his birthplace in Ireland, cared for by his devoted handler Joe Doyle.

"He will be much missed by all the team and will be commemorated with a memorial at Gilltown Stud."
