Six-year-old gelding True Enough became the first Group 1 winner for his sire Nom du Jeu by winning the Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie.
True Enough is first Group 1 winner for his sire. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained six-year-old gelding True Enough won the Zabeel Classic (Gr 1, 2000m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day and in doing so became the first Group 1 winner for his sire Nom du Jeu (Montjeu).
Ridden by James McDonald, True Enough defeated the mare Fiscal Fancy (Skilled) by a long neck with Beauden (Bullbars) a close third.
"Every time we raise the bar for him he just keeps stepping up, and now he is a Group One winner," Forsman said.
"He ran out the mile at Wellington as though he needed 2000 metres and it had to be a good ride in a quality field today and it was spot on."
True Enough is now likely to be spelled ahead of an autumn campaign.
Already a winner at Group 2 and Group 3 level, Thursday's victory took True Enough's record to 9 wins and 8 placings from 20 starts with his prize money now totalling NZ$444,225.
He is out of the winning mare Valda's Dream (Sakura Seeking) who has produced 3 winners to date, True Enough her only stakes winner.
Nom Du Jeu began his stallion career at Fairdale Stud in New Zealand and then relocated to Queensland in 2017.
