The Paul Preusker-trained Surprise Baby (Shocking) has been ruled out of All-Star Mile (1600m) contention after sustaining a hock injury on Monday. Further tests are being performed to ascertain the severity of the injury and the next steps to be taken.

“He will be in comfortable, safe and in good hands at the vet clinic,” a post on Paul Preusker Racing’s Facebook page stated.

“We thank everyone for their well wishes in advance.”

Surprised Baby has not raced since he finished 13th, beaten almost nine lengths, in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) on November 3.
