Trelawney Stud has announced the death of Group Two winner Pareanui Bay (Lonhro) following a paddock accident.

Raced by Brent and Cherry Taylor, Pareanui Bay raced five times for three wins with his best victory coming in the Ames & Annie Sarten Memorial (Gr 2, 1400m) at Te Rapa last October for the Tony Pike stable.

"It is a tragic thing to have happened," said Brent Taylor. "Not only was he a fantastic racehorse but he had a great character and had a lovely nature. He was well-loved in the stable and we were looking forward to the future with him and seeing him live out his time at Trelawney.

"The team at Cambridge Equine Hospital have also been great, Rob Hitchcock and Alanna Zantingh, trying to find a solution but unfortunately despite their best efforts nothing could be done and the decision had to be made."

Trelawney Stud will offer Parenaui Bay's Savabeel (Zabeel) half-sister as Lot 459 at Book 1 of New Zealand Bloodstock's Karaka 2022 sale next month.
