Bevan Sweeney: Best At Ōtaki Wednesday Night

Race 1 
7 Dresse' Par Joli

She was backed strongly fresh up and on review you would have to say that she was disappointing. She was left flat footed and only made ground very late running a strong last 200m and I'm not sure the race was overly strong. Even with these concerns she gets another chance today as the Blinkers go on and Allan wouldn't have missed her in her work after her fresh up run. She should position up closer with the Blinkers On and be hard to beat from there. I marked her at $3 so the $3.6 available looks ok.

Race 2 
7 Ella Kate

She comes in fresh after a 50 day freshen up and has shown promise across her three Raceday starts to date. When last seen she was taken back after jumping well and was untried in tight quarters until the last 100m where she flashed home. I like the fact that a senior rider goes on in Allpress but that is countered by a very tricky draw but expect her to be positively ridden. She has been in the Black book for a while, and she should be winning at short notice she will be even when she gets to 1600m. She is the best value on the programme today.

Race 3 
6 Ima Brazen One

I was with her at Trentham, and she was very green down the shoot but was still only a couple of lengths off the winner. That said I think that Mike Breslin was looking for a much softer race than this has turned out to give the filly some confidence. This race will be a decent form guide for the next couple of months with at least four future winners in my mind. That said I think she can lead and win and then be a force for her next couple of starts or may be put aside for the spring. Nice race all around for this time of year.

Race 4 
2 Songwriter

Here is a case of the right horse in the right race. He has run two very good races over the 1600m here at Otaki and was a little unlucky not to be closer after being held up last start. The step up in trip today looks ideal in a race that does not have a lot of exposed form and the slight gear change should improve him. I really like this horse's profile today and I marked him a lot shorter than the $3.3 available so looks a decent win investment.

Race 5 
8 Miyazawa

I liked her chances in a much stronger race at Trentham last time and on review her run was at least as good as her race rival in Stringline. She was shuffled back and checked after finding a good position early and was a little green when the real pressure went on. She will be better for the first run over ground and is drawn well on a track that should suit her better at this point in her career. I like her each way today.

Race 6 
1 Cooper

He is a really nice horse who is learning his trade this preparation and look for him to be a Opn sprinter next preparation. He comes back from a 75 to a 65 and therefore has the 60kg which with his size shouldn't hinder him too much. The Otaki track should suit him perfectly and he looks a very decent bet today and my best of the day.

Race 7 
11 Mr Mojo Risin'

He has long looked a horse who has a decently high ceiling. He was dominant here at his last start albeit on a track that was a lot more rain affected than he meets today. If Islington Lass had drawn better, she would have been the top selection, but she will have to be at her very best to win from the outside. Mr Mojo Risin' should get a sweet trip be improved from his last so I am just slightly leaning towards him.

Race 8 
8 La Bella Grande

Going for some value in the last and possibly on reputation rather than what I have seen on the racetrack. She is physically a very imposing mare, and she has always been thought of very highly which has seen her disappoint at times. She looked much more relaxed recently at the trials than last preparation so this preparation may see her fulfill her potential. Don't be surprised if she leads them up today and runs them into the deck.
