Inglis is celebrating a Classic Sale like no other with the abbreviated third session of Book 1 putting an exclamation mark on a record-breaking few days.

An additional $10,637,000 in stock changed hands from the 120 lots who made up the third part of Book 1 taking to $66,786,000 in gross sales – up more than $15 million on what was generated at last year's sale.

The 2022 Classic Sale did have 56 more horses offered in Book 1 but the average of $122,768 was up 20 percent on last year's figure of $101,792.

The clearance rate was 90 percent.

Day 3 was headlined by the Coolmore-prepared Fastnet Rock x Fiorentina filly who sold to Will Bourne, Australian Bloodstock and Lustre Lodge for $500,000.

It finished with a bang when the final lot in Book 1, a colt by Lean Machina Machine out of Kulgrinda, sold for $380,000 – the equal 10th highest-priced lot of the sale.

Extreme Choice had the two top lots of the sale, a colt out of To Dubawi Go who sold for $825,000 and a colt out of Murtle Turtle who went for $775,000, which underpinned his success as the leading sire by average in Book 1.

The Newgate stallion had seven youngsters sell at an average of $352,857.

Mark Kavanagh was the leading buyer in both numbers and aggregate, splurging $1,580,000 on 14 youngsters, while Newgate sold more horses than any other vendor – 48 for $5,645,000 – with Mane Lodge the leading vendor on average for those who sold at least three horses.

The farm whose draft included the Extreme Choice colt who topped the sale sold four horses at an average price of $296,250.

At the conclusion of Book 1, an additional 137 youngsters were offered as part of the Highway Session, which contributed another $5,768,500 in sales.
