New Zealand Bloodstock was thrilled with the results from this month's Karaka Yearling Sale, but New Zealand premier yearling sale will revert to its traditional date from 2023.

NZB on Tuesday announced that next year's offering would be held from January 29 to February 3.

Covid meant that this year's sale was pushed from late January to March 7-12 and while the success of the sale prompted NZB to consider a permanent change to March, feedback from buyers and vendors encouraged them to return to January.

"Thought had been given to making the move to March permanent, however it is such a congested time of the year with Australian sales and racing," NZB Managing Director, Andrew Seabrook, said.

"A post-sale canvas of some key Australian buyers supports our view that a January sale will be more beneficial to NZB, its vendors and buyers.

"We believe we will get more Australians to a Sale in January, whilst at the same time having the advantage of being the second, rather than sixth, yearling sale in the season.

"From a logistical perspective, we received a lot of feedback from our vendors that it is far easier to get staff in January than in March, and of course, it's beneficial having the Karaka Million Twilight Race Meeting as an entrée to the week of selling."

The 2023 Karaka Million race meeting will be held on Saturday, January 28 with Book 1 yearlings to go under the hammer from January 29-31 with Book 2 held from Wednesday, February 1 to Friday, February 3.
