Chris Waller and the high-profile team associated with Northern Beaches, headed up by Coolmore, can start planning a path towards better races after the high-priced colt broke his maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday.

A son of Not A Single Doubt and proven producer Aloona, Northern Beaches scored a first-up win in the $55,000 Ranvet Handicap (1200m) at what was his fifth career start.

The $1 million Inglis Easter yearling overcame being held up to charge through a gap midway down the straight and power away for a 2-1/4-length win in a race jam-packed with well-bred types, headlined by Scientist (Zoustar), the first foal from dual Group 1 winner Global Glamour.

Northern Beaches will not be the first member of the family to contest high level races if he does get to a race like for the $3 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), for which he is a now a $26 in TAB's market.

He is the fourth to race from Aloona, a daughter of Smart Strike and the Mountain Cat mare Altana, who was bred in America but did her racing in France, where she was a winner over 1850m.

Aloona's first foal was Aylmerton, who was the result of an overseas cover to Siyouni, who won a Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at his second start and finished 10th in the Golden Slipper.

She then produced $360,000 yearling Alighted, a daughter of Smart Missile whose sole win came in a Warwick Farm maiden.

The next foal was Arnaqueur (Astern), who is Group 3-placed and is a last-start Randwick winner, defeating Caulfield Guineas fancy Conqueror.

Northern Beaches was offered for sale at the Easter Sale by Lime Country Thoroughbreds and became the first seven-figure yearling bred off the Mittagong farm of Woodpark Stud.
