The first day of the Arqana February Mixed Sale was topped by Group winning seven-year-old mare Air De Valse (Mesnil Des Aigles) who sold for €240,000 to Bridge Consignment.

Winner of the Group 3 Prix du Petit Couvert (1000m) as a four-year-old, Air De Valse has been stakes placed on multiple occasions including when second in the 2021 Group 1 Prix de l' Abbaye de Longchamp (1000m).

"She's been bought for Mr Benaroussi, who continues to invest in breeding. For the moment we haven't decided what stallion she will go to or where she will be boarded," said Jerome Glandais following the purchase.

The second lot to sell for six figures came later in the session when Majal (Shalaa) sold to the BBA Ireland's Eamon Reilly for €102,000. A winner, Majal is out of Group 3 winner Peaceful Love (Dashing Blade), making her a half-sister to eight winners including Group 3 winner Pao Alto (Intello). This is also the family of Group 1 winner Palmas (Lord Of England).

"She's a lovely filly, that moves nicely and has an exceptional pedigree page. She'll come back to Ireland and start her broodmare career," said Reilly.

Tuesday's first session saw 111 lots sell for €1,805,000, up ten per cent from last year's figure of €1,647,000 when 140 lots sold. The average was €16,261, up 40 per cent from €11,764 recorded a year ago and the median was €9,000, up from €6,000 in recorded during the opening session of the 2022 sale.

The second and final day of the sale will start at 11am on Wednesday.
