Australian Harness Racing Preview – 17-18 May 2024

3 minute read

A second row draw looks unlikely to stop boom pacer Extreme Sea when he lines up in one three Regional Championship Finals to be held in NSW on Friday and Saturday.

Newcastle and Wagga will both host their deciders on Friday night before Extreme Sea headlines the Metropolitan Final at Menangle on Saturday night.

Extreme Sea was a class above in his heat when he sat parked early before taking over and drawing right away to spank his rivals by 25m.

That was his first outing for more than five weeks after his impressive Riverina Championship win so he'll be better for it.

The lightly-raced but highly-talented four-year-old is building a strong record and looks bound for much bigger things.

He draws on the second row on Saturday but that doesn't look to be enough to stop him from recording another win.

My Ultimate Snowy is racing well having led to win his last two outings at this circuit, dominating his heat to score by 4.5m.

He draws for a nice trail and if the gaps come he should be in the finish.

Corbie Stumbler continued his consistent form when runner up to Extreme Sea last start.

He has a big margin to turn around on that rival but he has the gate speed to work across into a prominent spot and has yet to miss a place at Menangle.

Craftmans Charlie draws the inside barrier for the Hunter region final at Newcastle and has the gate speed to take advantage of it.

He has led from wider barriers to win both starts at this circuit since a spell, last time dominating his heat from the front to score by 3.4 metres.

He should be nearing peak fitness third up so can land the hat trick.

Man From Braavos is another that should push forward as he led from a similar barrier to win his heat by 2m last time, his third success from his last four outings at this circuit.

It is hard to knock his form and he rates as a big chance.

Major Reason found winning form when third up here last time, taking his record at this distance four from five. He draws for a trail and could be dangerous from there.

The Cid is ticking along well having finished close up in both starts since a spell. He could be ready to strike.

Hy Poactive will look to maintain an unbeaten record when he lines up in the Riverina final at Wagga.

He is an exciting gelding who stretched his perfect record to five when he led in his heat at the same circuit and distance and drew away to score by 7.4m.

He has the gate speed to take full advantage of the low draw and will be reaching peak fitness third up so looks hard to catch.

Captains Catch was impressive in his heat last week when he led from a wider barrier before spanking his rivals by 15m.

He had finished within a head of Hy Poactive when they clashed two back and the ace draw gives him the chance to turn the tables.

Captain Tom has improved with racing this time in, coming from wider for a third-up win last week.

He has won both attempts at this circuit and distance and will be peaking so is a player from the good draw.

Joycies Lad toughed out a win two back before chasing Captain Tom as runner up in the heats. He is drawn to follow the favourite so include.
