Australian Harness Racing Preview – Saturday, May 25, 2024

3 minute read

Dual Group 1 winner The Lost Storm can stake his claim for major races in Queensland and NSW in the coming months when he resumes at Melton on Saturday night.

The Lost Storm.
The Lost Storm.

inner of a juvenile Vicbred Final and last year's Queensland Derby, The Lost Storm is ideally drawn in barrier one for the Betavet Bold David Free For All.

The Lost Storm has made a quiet start to his four-year-old season having only raced once when taking out the G3 City of Melton Plate in March.

That was his seventh win from eight attempts at Saturday's 2240m distance and maintained an unbeaten record after four fresh attempts so expect he'll be primed for his return.

The Lost Storm has several big features on his agenda with a trip to Brisbane for the Rising Sun looming while a second attempt at September's Eureka could be in the offing if his form can capture the attention of slot holders.

The Lost Storm's appearance is an extra highlight to a program that features two $150,000 Gold Bullion Finals for three-year-olds.

NSW Derby winner Soho Spectre looks the class runner in the colts and gelding decider.

He heads south in winning form having dominated his heat in Sydney last start, his third victory from his last four starts.

He draws wider but has the gate speed to get across and strikes at 50 per cent at this distance. Class should carry him a long way in this line-up.

War Dan Buddy was first up for close to seven weeks when he sat parked for third in his heat so should have come on.

He had kicked off the campaign with a heat win and a second in the final of the G2 Gold Chalice at Bathurst where he beat Soho Spectre home.

He too strikes at 50 per cent at this distance, winning his only attempt at it at Melton and he draws for a trail.

Alot Like Louie won four in a row before a close second in his heat. He'll be improved by that and is aided by the ace draw.

The ace draw should see the fillies final pan out perfectly for Libby Lou.

She had the same barrier in her heat at Menangle last start and took full advantage, leading to score by 4.7m and was a close second in the G2 Gold Bracelet from the same draw earlier in the campaign.

She hasn't missed a place at this distance and looks hard to get past.

Eureka Jo finally broke her maiden last start when she raced parked for a narrow win in her heat at Bendigo.

She draws wider but she is race fit and was Group 1 placed at Melton last season.

Her stablemate Perpetuity was fourth in Eureka Jo's heat but had gone into that off back-to-back wins, one of them at Melton. She draws to track Libby Lou so could be dangerous.

Exciting pacer Extreme Sea looks to have the State Final of the Regional Championship at his mercy at Menangle on Saturday night.

The David Hewitt-trained four-year-old has already earned a slot in The Eureka and he showed why that faith has been put him in when he clocked brilliant time and spanked his rivals in last week's metropolitan decider.

That was just his ninth start so his potential is untapped and bad luck or traffic problems from his second row draw look his only danger.

Swayzee.
Swayzee.

Last year's New Zealand Cup winner Swayzee adds some quality to the Menangle program when he makes his first appearance of the season.

He hasn't raced since a third in December's Inter Dominion final behind half brother Leap To Fame and they could be headed for another clash in July's Backs A Fake having toppled his sibling in that race last year.

His trainer Jason Grimson also sends the talented Nerano around in the same race where they clash with multiple Group 1 winner Max Delight.
