Larry Lynch is hoping his often inconsistent mare Bond Girl will have a licence to thrill when she steps out in Stawell’s unique heats-into-final one-day series on Good Friday.

The mare will feature in heat one of the Stawell Toyota Pleasant Creek Plate at 2.07pm, with the second heat to follow before the top five from each progress to the final at 5.32pm.

"She is going all right, she had a trial down at Bacchus Marsh on Saturday, she ran second down there," Lynch said of Bond Girl, who's unraced since December. "But she is a bit funny, she has her moods, some days she is very good and others she is a bit ratty."

She will be surrounded by plenty of smiles on Friday with a terrific family day planned by the club, which is throwing it's support behind the Royal Children Hospital's Good Friday Appeal with a range of activities.

Entry is free and that extends to a plethora of complimentary kids' activities, which promise non-stop fun for the little ones.

On the track much excitement will surround the aforementioned Stawell Toyota Pleasant Creek Plate, which is run in similar fashion to the famed Great Southern Star and Elitloppet, but in this case for pacers with far more modest records.

Lynch said the three-hour turn around between heats and the final shouldn't pose an issue for his hope Bond Girl, who's a winner of one race from 17 starts.

"In the early days they use to run the heats and the final in the same day all the time, but usually you find the final will be faster than the heat," he said. "They are pretty tough horses."

Bond Girl has drawn gate one with Jason Ainsworth booked to pilot and her 76-year-old trainer's first target is qualification for the $10,000 feature.

"I think you have got to qualify, but in saying that there is prize money available (in the heat), you should aim to win," he said.

"If there is something that will take you on, you might go to the front and sit on them. All these plans you make before the race come unstuck once they leave the mobile."

If the foal of Sheer Magnifique is successful in qualifying for the final, the Gordon trainer will keep his preparation for the final consistent.

"You go through all the usual preparation, where you wash them and make sure they have a drink somewhere along the line and maybe even a bit to eat in that period of time," he said. "She will pull up all right."
