Morris' milestone a family affair

3 minute read

MENANGLE Park reinsman Robbie Morris has joined elite company by notching his 2000th career winner at Newcastle last Friday night.

The significant milestone was made even more special as the horse Morris drive to victory, Parallel, was bred and is raced by his mother Margaret and trained by his wife KerryAnn, making the occasion a real family affair.

But the 32-year-old simply took it all in his stride, treating the occasion as just another night at the office.

"I felt like I got to within five wins of it and then stalled," laughed Morris.

"It had been a quiet couple of weeks for me, but it was a lovely way to bring up the milestone with most of my family involved.

"In all seriousness though it is very humbling for me to see my name alongside so many top horsemen and women who have reached 2000 and beyond.

"Like others, I have worked hard to get where I am after being born into the sport.

"But you cannot do it alone and I have been very fortunate to have been afforded the opportunities to succeed, firstly from the support of my family, closely followed by so many owners and trainers who I maintain the utmost respect for and remain ever grateful to.

"I would not have got to this stage in my career without them all."
