Ardens Horizon NZ Adds York Cup to his Resume

Saturday nights listed $30,000 Glenroy Chaff York Cup went the way of Ardens Horizon NZ for trainer and driver, Callan Suvaljko at Northam Harness Racing Club.

After an unflappable start from barrier four on the front line handicap over the 2650m standing start trip, Callan Suvaljko was able to press forward early on to gain the lead, going for an all the way victory in the feature of the meeting.

Working as foreman for astute trainer Gary Hall Snr, Suvaljko was offered the then three-year-old before he had his first start in WA as he wasn't 'shaping up' at the time, along with Louie Lebeau NZ and Illegal Act who have gone on to win races.

"He had just kept improving with one-on-one attention, and racing through the country has given him so much confidence,

"He has far gone past expectations, so whatever he does is a bonus."

Ardens Horizon NZ has gone on to win 10 races from 22 starts since heading to the stables of Callan Suvaljko, including the Collie Cup in November 2022, as well as running fourth in the Group 1 WA Derby just nine days prior.

Suvaljko confirmed that they will now head to town to go through his classes.

Deni Roberts drove a double on the card, with a win in the opener on board Alta Ego for trainer Colin Baker. Having just his second start for the stable, the four-year-old came off a last start third at Kellerberrin, with Roberts peeling off the pegs on the home bed to claim the narrow victory in a thrilling finish.

Three-year-old All Is Well took out race two on the card for Kat Warwick and Chris Lewis, after working their way to the front from barrier six, 500m after release point.

With just 20 races under his belt, All Is Well has now won six and placed in four, winning on Saturday night with a comfortable 6.1m margin over the 2190m trip.

Me Flash resumed just five days earlier after a short let up, and at start two back this time in was able to salute for trainer/driver Shane Steele. Getting the win at $14 odds, the pair were able to sit outside the leader, proving too good, winning by a head on the line in 1:58:1 over the 2190m trip.

$1.32 favourite Cyclone Charlotte NZ took out race four on the card for Ray Williams and Dylan Egerton-Green, with the four-year-old returning to country racing after her last four starts at metropolitan rated Gloucester Park, including two wins in open 3YO company.

Starting from barrier one, the pair were able to lead all the way, with a winning margin of 3.4m over her rivals.

Corey Peterson had a successful weekend, with a driving double at Wagin the night before, he prepared Seagrass for victory in race six, with Deni Roberts in the cart.

A double for Roberts, the three-year-old filly started as the $2.75 favourite, leading all the way from barrier two.

Local trainer Lang Inwood took out the last on the card with his runner Lets Rock Tonight able to sit in the breeze throughout over the 2190m distance, giving Shannon Suvaljko the winning steer in race seven.
