Miss Sassy continues to impress with Alcoa Cup win

“She’s just absolutely flying at the moment.”

Miss Sassy has always shown she's had above average ability, but trainer Michael Brennan confirmed that she just continues to get better and better.

After taking out the $10,000 Westbred Alcoa Cup on Monday, September 25 at Pinjarra, Brennan knew his mare had her chances in the feature but wasn't ready to declare her based on a tricky draw.

"I was as confident as I could be, just the draw was a little bit sticky, but once again Voaky pulled the right rein at the right time.

"I thought if she had the right trip she could win,

"but wasn't confident enough to declare her or anything like that, because it was a really strong race yesterday."

Winning three from her last four races, Miss Sassy made her return this preparation in May, kicking it off with a win, and after 11 starts this campaign, she's managed to take out six, including the open $11,000 RWWA Westbred Feature at Narrogin in July.

"This prep she's just jumped out of the ground,

"She was always a nice filly, she probably should have nearly beaten Wonderful To Fly in the Country Oaks and she was awfully unlucky in the WA Oaks,

"But she's just blossomed this time in, being a typical Alta Christiano, they just get better as they get older." Michael Brennan said.

Sustaining an injury as a yearling, after receiving a puncture wound to one of her joints, she hasn't looked back, with the now four-year-old sitting on 10 career wins from 37 starts, with her stakes now sitting at over $75,000 for her large ownership group.

Miss Sassy now heads to the paddock for a quick two week let up and will be back in hopes to tackle some of the feature mares' races later in the year.

"It's a bit of a pipe dream, but dreams are free,

"She is still eligible for a level 7-9 mares, so we will try pinch one of them and see if we can get our way to the mares' races towards the end of the year, through the back door,

"Voaky was really wrapped with her yesterday and he's of the opinion that she will measure up against those good mares,

"It's never easy for the girls to beat the boys, and she's done that repeatedly."

Brennan currently has just a small team of horses in his care but confirmed it's a quality team.  All going well, he heads to Gloucester Park with four horses this Friday, including his stable star Pinny Tiger who resumes after an impressive trial last week.

"I'm really happy with him (Pinny Tiger), he's improved heaps."

The stable heads to Bunbury today with newcomer Bellissimo Acquisto NZ who makes his debut in WA after making the trip over from New Zealand. Winning a trial a week ago at Pinjarra, Brennan is confident he should go through the grades pretty quickly.
