Australian Harness Racing Preview – 13th January 2024

3 minute read

A placing in last week’s Bendigo Cup when off a seven-week let-up should have Hurricane Harley ready to show his best in Saturday night’s Shepparton Pacing Cup.

Hurricane Harley settled three back on the pegs when off this same barrier in that race and kept chasing to finish third.

He'll come on from that and is proven at this circuit so with a nice trail likely he has winning claims.

It's hard to knock the form of Max Delight who landed a winning hat trick by taking out the Bendigo Cup.

He draws on the second row again having overcome a barrier on this line in each of those wins and he strikes at 50 per cent at this circuit so must rate highly.

Taipo heads south in good form, coming from a wider barrier for a Menangle win two back before sitting parked when runner up from the back row in the Shirley Turnbull Memorial at Bathurst. He is drawn to make an impact.

Curly James has been freshened since finishing runner from the second line at Melton last time and has never missed a place at Shepparton so should get every chance from the ace draw.

Serg Blanco pushed Max Delight to just a head in the Bendigo Cup and while he goes back to the second line his previous two efforts from there were sound.

Smart mare Im Ready Jet looks nicely placed in the Derby Royale Trotters Free For All later on the program.

She will find this race easier than her last attempt when fourth in the Maori Mile at Bendigo and was good when overcoming a second row draw to score two back at Melton.

She has a win and a placing in two starts at Shepparton and owns a good record at the distance so looks well placed.

Chinese Whisper returned to winning form last time out at Melton, coming from a 40m handicap to score by 1.7m. This is stronger but he is going well enough to step up.

Kyvalley Hotspur powered back into winning form in the Cobram Cup last start, cruising home by 20m. He has the speed to push forward from the mobile and should make an impact.
