Australian Harness Racing Preview – 16th March 2024

3 minute read

Group 1-winning stablemates The Lost Storm and Perfect Class are set for an interesting clash when they resume at Melton on Saturday night.

The Lost Storm.
The Lost Storm.

The Emma Stewart-trained four-year-olds add some class to the program when they take on the City of Melton Plate XXXV over 2240m.

The form of The Lost Storm  had tapered off by the end of his three-year-old season but he is brilliant when right.

He was an easy winner of the Queensland Derby last campaign and has a terrific record at this circuit and distance with four wins and a placing from five attempts - including a massive win in a Group 1 as a juvenile.

He is unbeaten in three fresh attempts and two trial wins suggest he has returned in good order.

Perfect Class has been freshened since his resuming second in the 4YO Bonanza and the winner Frankie Ferocious has franked the form by taking out the Chariots of Fire since.

He was kept up to the mark with a trial win and while drawn on the back row he showed his class when he ended last campaign with a Group 1 Breeders Crown win at this circuit.

Rakero Rebel is a smart mare who kicked off the campaign with back-to-back placings including a Cranbourne Cup third behind Leap To Fame before delivering a Geelong win last time out.

She also draws on the second line but has the fitness edge on the top two and that could prove an advantage.

Earl Of Pembroke is a first four player having placed in his last two outings from back row draws.

Just Believe.
Just Believe.

Star trotter Just Believe should add another win to an already packed resume when he lines up in the City Of Melton Scotch Notch Memorial

Just Believe has had three weeks off since a remarkable last-start win at this circuit when coming from a seemingly impossible position and surging home to land the Australian Grand Prix in the last-stride.

He is classes above these rivals and should be winning again.

Ollivici has chased Just Believe in all four starts since winning two Inter Dominion heats. He'll have to lift to turn the tables but has been kept up to the mark with a trial win and strikes at 50 per cent at this circuit and distance.

Ebonys Avenger pushed classy mare Queen Elida last start before breaking late and finishing second. She can feature from the ace draw.

Sleepee is a handy mare who has been coming from wider or second row draws of late so could be competitive from a better barrier.
