The future is bright for Steno, who is undeniably the mare to beat this season.

Yesterday at Pinjarra, the Jocelyn Young trained and reined five-year-old continued her impressive run with an all the way victory in the $35,000 Woodlands Stud Golden Girls Mile at Pinjarra.

Unbeaten in her last six attempts, Steno and Young were able to lead all the way from barrier three, with Young confident that her mare is good enough to step it up in FFA company against the boys.

"We need to sit down and work out what we will do, because if she's going to Sydney, we want to freshen her up now,

"if she's going to get a Nullarbor slot or stay in Perth, we need to keep her going,

"The Empress Stakes would be an obvious target if she's to stay here otherwise."

Previously trained by Youngs partner Cameron Ross, the pair made their way over to WA in mid-2023, winning on debut at Gloucester Park back on the 26th of May, and since transferring to Youngs care in November, she has continued to shine with the mare boasting an impressive $363,901 in stakes from just 39 starts.

Of those 39 starts, she has won 19 and placed in 10 others, with a win in the 2022 APG 3YO Fillies Final adding $68,125 to her purse.

Young prepared the quinella in the Golden Girls Mile, with stablemate Machs Legacy going down by a 5.7m margin, driven by Chris Lewis, with the winner taking the feature in a slick 1:53:6 winning mile rate.

"She's sure got above average ability, she would have to be one of the speediest horses I've driven,

"I'm yet to work out a secure plan for her because there are so many options,

'That sounds great but sometimes too many options make life a little difficult when trying to plan."

At this stage, Young is unsure where they will head to next but did confirm Steno pulled up a treat after yesterday's run.

"She needed the run, so she's feeling extra good today."
