Tabcorp Park Menangle Preview & Best Bets – Saturday, March 23

3 minute read

Hot And Treacherous will be shooting for back-to-back wins when he lines up in the feature race at Menangle on Saturday night.

Race-by-race preview of Menangle, Saturday March 23.

Race 1: ALLIED EXPRESS COURIER SERVICES PACE

IM IN TROUBLE (3) has been racing well, scoring back-to-back wins before a brave second here last week when he drew wider and raced deep before working to the front and digging deep to go under by a nose. The lower draw gives him every chance to atone. Smart mare DREAM MAZE (5) heads to Sydney for the first time off back-to-back Hobart wins, last time cruising home by 13m in the George Johnson Final. Takes on the boys but owns a terrific strike rate and her form is hard to knock. SMIFFYS TERROR (8) has taken on stronger company since winning here earlier in his campaign. This looks a suitable assignment. WAVETHEBILL (1) was a winner here three back and is worth another chance from the ace draw.

Race 2: BESTINBEDS.COM.AU PACE

LOUS DREAM (8) was well fancied last week and led but couldn't see it out, fading to midfield but beaten less than 6m. He draws wider but this looks a suitable assignment and his form from earlier in the campaign would take him close in this line up. There was plenty to like about last week's effort from DON LOU (4) when he drew widest and went back but chased well for a 3.8m fourth. He is much better served by this barrier so has winning claims. GIVE ME A MINUTE (3) comes off a strong showing last week when beaten only 3.6m. Another low draw can see him in the finish. HE BETTOR STEP ASIDE (6) continues to race well with a string of top-three finishes, scoring two back at Bathurst before a third from a similar draw here last week. Respect.

Race 3: APIAM AGNES BANKS DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING PACE

OUR VINNIE (5) was a beaten favourite in last week's Canberra Cup but he had a tough draw on the back row so the effort for third had merit. That was his first outing since tackling the G1 Chariots of Fire and he had placed here in his first two starts of the campaign including the Hondo Grattan. He is well placed in this line up. ALIBERTO (1) is a progressive pacer who recorded back-to-back wins at this circuit before giving a sight last week, leading and sticking on fourth. He has the gate speed to take advantage of the ace draw. BLUTO (6) is a newcomer to the Hewitt yard from NZ and brings winning form having saluted in his latest outing at Ascot Park. Hasn't raced for seven weeks but has trialled so can measure right up. CORBIE STUMBLER (3) is racing well, scoring here two back and placing from wider last week. Go well again.

Race 4: CLUB MENANGLE WARATAH FINAL

KING BOBBIE (8) did a good job in returning to winning form last time at Bathurst, copping a check early but chasing along the sprint lane and proving too strong. He draws wider but if things go his way could go on with it. NIFTY RONALD (5) comes to town off back-to-back wins, last time leading to score by 5.4m at Wagga. He draws to push forward again and that gives him the chance to land the hat trick. HALSEY NICOLE (1) is building nicely and there was merit in her latest effort to come from the back row for second at Newcastle. Aided by this draw and will be close to peaking. BEE SEVENTEEN (7) has claims after scoring from a similar barrier at Tamworth last time out.

Race 5: CHARLIE FURINA MEMORIAL

ILLAVABUBBLES (11) comes off her first defeat in six starts at this circuit but the effort still had merit when she placed behind two handy mares. Starts from the outside barrier but she will enjoy the class drop having scored easily in this grade two back. Her form is hard to knock. DIEING ART (7) is a mare on the up and made it four wins in a row when she scored in her first visit to this circuit last week. Takes another step up in grade but she looks up to it. MARIA ALLEGONDA (1) has been runner up in both starts since kicking off in Australia with a win at this venue. Race fit and aided by the ace draw. MAJIC MOMENT (9) has claims off a fourth against the boys from a similar barrier here two back.

Race 6: CLUB MENANGLE AUTUMN GIFT FINAL

DOUGS PLATTER (9) has relished a class drop in recent outings, scoring back-to-back wins at this circuit since tackling a couple of Chariots Of Fire qualifiers. Draws just one spot wider than when he scored by 5m last week. Big chance to land the hat trick. GOLDEN BAY (3) hasn't missed a place in his last four starts at this circuit, scoring for the second time when leading to get home by 2.4m last week. He has the speed to take advantage of a draw closer to the pegs so must be a winning chance again. I BREAK THE LINE (4) has been racking up the wins, making it four in a row when coming to town last week. Building a nice record at this distance. Winning form is hard to knock. UBETCHA TIGERPIE (7) is in the mix having come from this same barrier to score by 3.3m here last week. BLAZING HOME (12) draw widest but is racing well.

Race 7: GARRARDS FFA

HOT AND TREACHEROUS (7) took full advantage of the ace draw to lead and win by more than 5m here last time out, taking his record at the circuit and distance to two from two. Draws wider but his confidence is back and with race fitness on his side he can go right on with the job. FIRE FOX (6) will find this easier than his last attempt in a Miracle Mile qualifier and his prior form was strong, kicking off his campaign with back-to-back wins at this circuit. Can bounce back. BONDI LOCKDOWN (4) produced a nice effort when runner up to Hot And Treacherous last start. Draws inside that rival this time so is a chance to turn the tables. EXPENSIVE EGO (5) has been below his best of late but strikes at 50 per cent at this circuit and distance and will be fitter for recent racing so could show more.

Race 8: AINSWORTH GAME TECHNOLOGY TROTTERS MOBILE

CONSTANTINOPLE (8) was brave when he came from this same barrier for second in the Group 1 Trotters Mile here last start. Had put together a string of wins before that and loves it here, winning eight of 10 visits. A class drop can see him back in the winners' stall. ROYAL DAN (6) takes a step up in grade but couldn't have done much more in his first outing for Jason Grimson, romping home by 37m at Canberra to continue a string of top-two finishes. He looks ready to take the next step. FUNKY MONKEY (5) recorded a string of seconds, three of them behind Constantinople, before a solid midfield finish in the Trotters Mile. Can be competitive. VICTREE HILL (7) won here two back then placed at big odds from a similar barrier in the Trotters Mile. Must respect off that.

BEST BETS:

Race 1 #3 Im In Trouble – Racing well and favoured by the low draw.

Race 3 #5 Our Vinnie – A better draw can see him return to the winners' list.
