Only a short-head split Sea The Sky and Divine Jewel at Longchamp last Thursday when the pair produced an excellent finish in the Listed Prix Joubert (2800m).

Nine runners contested the Listed opening race on Thursday afternoon (8 Sept) at Longchamp where Alpenblume caught the eye for all the wrong reasons when rearing up in the gates losing five lengths at the start of the race. The pace appeared to be fairly strong in the early stages. Taking the first turn with ten lengths covering the group one of the market leaders, Caius Chorister raced out front. Eventual winner, Sea The Sky was settled midfield in fifth, five lengths off travelling along the back straight.

The tempo quickly decreased along the far side and by now Alpenblume was able to recover into midfield.

Maxime Guyon settled Sea The Sky, a daughter of Sea The Stars, and settled her into a nice rhythm racing two off the rail in sixth place turning into the false straight. The winning jockey angled out the three-year-old perfectly to go three wide and begin a winning challenge on the outside until overtaking the leading duo, Caius Chorister and Queen Trezy

At the 250m marker, Sea The Sky was building momentum and found her stride making significant progress to press on with with Divine Jewel. These two fought out the finish to the Listed Prix Joubert (2800m) with Sea The Sky putting her head down when it mattered and record a short-head victory to secure black type status. Sea The Sky has two wins and two placings from five career starts. It was another step up in trip for this filly who showed she has the stamina required for a 2800m race. Looking progressive it will be interesting to see if she has any further late season targets.
