The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased eight eye-catching colts at the recent New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka 2024 Yearling Sale for a total outlay of NZ$2.7 million (approx. HK$13.37 million).
The Club's highest priced purchase was Lot 210 for NZ$650,000. The colt is by Kingman, sire of Group 1 winners Schnell Meister, Palace Pier, Kinross and Persian King.
Lot 244 fell the Club's way for NZ$200,000. The attractive bay is by the popular stallion Per Incanto from the same family as successful Hong Kong performer Fifty Fifty, winner of the G3 Chinese Club Challenge Cup and placegetter in the G1 Stewards' Cup and G1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup.
The Club secured a trio of Savabeel's progeny: Lot 256 for NZ$160,000, Lot 409 for NZ$620,000 and Lot 464 for NZ$310,000.
Savabeel needs no introduction as the sire of 32 individual Group 1 winners and as an eight-time Champion New Zealand Sire. In Hong Kong, he has produced a trio of seven-time winners in the form of the Group 1-placed Rattan, Flame Hero and Ever Laugh.
Lot 290 which was bought for NZ$260,000 is a half-brother to 10-time winner London Banker, whose best victory came at Group 3 level in Australia. The dam Palos de Lago has produced four foals to race – all winners.
Lot 309 was the sole purchase by Capitalist for NZ$260,000, sire of Hong Kong winners Seasons Wit, Blue Marlin, Superb Capitalist, Winning Data and more.
Wootton Bassett recently landed his first win as a sire in Hong Kong with Atomic Beauty and the Club was pleased to purchase one of his sons for NZ$240,000. King Of Steel, Almanzor, Audarya and Unquestionable are among his best progeny.
